jila0 is not the only one saying March 3. Then again these Apple rep / reseller / etc. comments are common and not exactly reliable.
All signs currently point to sometime in March for iMac updates, which day in March is still up in the air for now. Also, rumored release dates tend to get pushed back every now and then.

Whats funny is that we asked a quote in the beginning of the week and got it yesterday... then the Apple rep called us this morning to let us know about a new iMac coming next week. It's not like we asked or anything.. it came to us.. we didn't try to dish it out.

Blimey, I think everyone should just chill out a bit and take a step back.
Whilst I can understand that regular posters get fed up with the constant "Macs are coming" threads and posts there does seem to be a tendency to shoot new forum members down and patronise them - maybe a little more of a welcome would be more constructive. Also, if you don't like what a poster says why perpetuate the thread - let it lie. This particular thread is a point in case, althought all the regular posters shot down the OP and subsequent contributions they've done an admirable job in keeping this thread alive and at the top of the forum rather than just letting it die a natural death (and now I've just done the same).
Wether you've been a member for 1 day or 1 year and wether your perspective is correct or not it is just as valid as the next man, as everyone keeps on saying - no one really knows. Personally my money is on Apple surprising you all (long termers and new members) with something unexpected with the iMac realease - but what do I know😉😉

Interesting! I hadn't seen that.
We've seen a kext already that shows the iMac getting at least the 9400M. This new chipset supports Hybrid SLI, which is the unsupported tech in the MacBook Pro, so...
That's interesting. Now for the important question:
What's the power draw? If the power draw is too much, you can forget this new chipset in favor of the 9400M+9800M combo.
50% faster WOULD be nice, though.

I would really like to make my iMac a backup for a new iMac but it's simple, whenever they get here is fine with me as long as they are made and perform very well 😎 At that point, 20 new threads will begin with got my new iMac check it out, it's better than the ones in the other threads 😛

If they show up in the next week I would be surprised.

If they show up further in the future than you expect, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
We've been seeing these threads since December, if I remember properly. They began to multiply since January. All declaring "days away". So, just a few more (dozen) days and we'll probably see something.

Your Apple rep is probably just as in the dark as most everyone else, being the end of a long line of people in the company.
Sales reps tend not to delay an order they have in hand for no good reason. The rep must believe the rumor himself, or know something we don't. They like getting paid over delay getting paid.

These Apple sales reps are highly likely to read these forums - maybe the "insider" info is gleaned from the countless posts saying that new iMacs are imminent - a self perpetuating ever decreasing circle of information which feeds on itself.....We post it, the sales rep reads it so many times, they then let it slip to a customer that new iMacs are imminent, that's fed back into the forum promoting more speculation, sales rep reads it, they let it slip....etc. etc. etc.
For what it's worth I know someone at the Apple Store, London, and they don't have clue when the new iMacs are due, not even the faintest idea.

The high-end iMac is now discontinued on the Apple Australia online store.
If you click on any of the "popular configurations" or even try to change/upgrade ram/hard drive etc, est. ship date is DISCONTINUED.
Also, on the 20-inch iMacs... if you add anything onto them, shipping date is now est. 4 business days, they usually used to ship within 24hrs.
I got some word from an Apple Education reseller that apparently Apple is "holding off" releasing the new iMac because of exchange rate issues. They don't want to raise the price of iMacs, so therefore are holding off releasing the new ones until the exchange rate is 'appropriate'.

That is understandable. We were paying around US$3000+ last year for top of the line iMacs when the x-rate was almost 1:1. Now its nearer 0.6:1 we would be paying at least AUS$5000 for one for them to be making that kind of profit again 😛
I really hope the price doesn't skyrocket because of this because once that happens it will never come back down again herei n Aus (just like our fuel prices!!!).
That's odd, but not sure if that means if the iMacs are imminent. Apple Canada is still shipping the high-end models, though in 3-5 business days.

PS. If we purchase the 3.06ghz iMac now, it'll cost around $1915USD...which is about $200 cheaper than buying from the US. Yeah, that's true.. though why would the standard config. be discontinued, or the other popular configs?
I think there is quite a good chance the iMac update will in fact come this Tuesday 3rd March.
nVidia is releasing their GeForce 200 series mobile GPU's on this date. Back when MacBooks were released last year, it fell on the exact same day that 9400m + 9600m was released by nVidia.

I had a chat with a rep at my local Apple Store a few days ago when I was looking at getting an iMac soon, and he said the same thing.
He says that he thinks they're kept in the dark as much as us poor consumers so they can't accidentally spill the information prematurely. One day, a package arrives, they open it, and wow, look, there's the new [insert product here]!
Could be the truth, could be a lie - who knows. *shrug* Though, if I had to judge, he seemed just as antsy as me.
