Steve Jobs would never have signed off on it. Creates so much confusion among casual consumers. Do you buy the iPad 2, the new iPad (or was it the iPad 3?), or do you buy the other new iPad (you know the 4th gen that looks like the the new iPad 3, has the same retina screen but now has a smaller dock connector?)....see what I am getting at? Things will only get more confusing if you start adding the refub models to this mess.

Apple could have easily milked the holiday sales with the iPad mini and saved the big iPad update for the 'real' iPad 4 next year. I liked that symmetry and now it is gone.

p.s. The dropping of the numerical suffix on the iPad was a bad idea. It kinda makes it hard to tell them apart.

Steve Jobs era Apple created the competition.

Tim Cook era Apple conforms to the competition.

Yeah! Next they will be adding "s" to the name of models that just get a spec bump rather than a complete redesign.

SO un-apple like. STEVE JOBS WOULD NOT ALLOW THIS.

Man you are dramatic.

Under Steve Jobs you could buy the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 all at the same time. And you could buy refurbs of all of the above.

Yes, but they all had different names. Now it is all just iPad, new iPad, the latest new iPad. It is ridiculous.

iPhone 4S - "what a disappointment, not enough new features, old design, not keeping pace with the competition"

IPad 4 - "replaced too soon, too many upgrades, why didn't they wait?, just doing it to beat the competition"

You can please SOME of the people, SOME of the time!

The current ipad 3 is not selling anymore they replaced it with the latest with the lightning dock connector... Yes you can still buy a refurb jpad 3 but they will no longer be on shelves... So their won't be too much confusion...

Oh yes its the 90s all over again... When are they going back into clones and opening up the Sears outlets again?

True. 3rd gen ipad is discontinued because of the lack of a lightening connector. I bought the ipad 3 on launch day but am much more likely to purchase an ipad mini than replace the bigger ipad.
