I think that we are slowly getting to the point where most complains that people have about the iPad are being addressed by Apple. With the new OS release Apple is correcting many of the iPad shortcomings, at least for people that want to be able to do real work on an iPad without feeling limited.

I still see some problems with the iPad as a pro computer (at least for me). Most of the available apps are pretty simple and do not offer the functionality available in Desktop OSes. Apps like Microsoft Office, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and many others are not even close in functionality with their desktop OS counterparts. Photo editing, video editing is still not as good as on a Mac or PC. Apple should make Final Cut Pro for the iPad and make it full featured. Also Lightroom, Photoshop, AutoCad and other apps should also be made available with their full functionality on the iPad.
At least for my use cases, I feel more comfortable using my Macs and one of the main reasons is the lack of powerful apps on the iPad. I have created other threads too, discussing about the iPad's shortcomings in general, but I wanted to separate the apps topic from my other thread. So, what do you think? Do you also feel the same about the apps available on the iPad? I believe that the iPad has the power to do so much more. Of course I don't know if the iOS (or iPadOS) limitations are one of the reasons for the lack of power user functionality in many apps.

There are decent apps out there but don’t look to Adobe or Autodesk to move quickly to make their apps fully featured on iPad until there is a proven market for them.

Try out Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer to see an example of what can be achieved application wise.

For drawing and design, Procreate (iPad only), Affinity Designer and Concepts are dream apps. Ulysses is incredible for writing and managing writing projects and Mylio is a wonderful photo editing and digital asset management app. These are just some of the powerful iPad apps I use and could not live without.

And really, there are so many different types of "real work." The iPad may have shortcomings for you. But for me, and my real work, it serves me just fine.

And here I am, thinking it would be really nice if Instagram cared to make an iPad app ;)
