I have always used the flagship models and never thought of buying a smaller iPhone for me, but my company gave me an iPhone 11 to use. I have been using it along my personal iPhone 11 Pro Max for the last three weeks, and my first impression really hasn't changed. I find the LCD display of the 11 much better than the OLED display of the 11 Pro max, if you can forget the lower resolution. Let me explain why I say that.
  • Whites on the iPhone 11 look really great, while on the 11 Pro Max look blueish..
  • The iPhone 11 looks brighter (indoors) and more vivid than the 11 Pro Max.
  • The viewing angles are also better on the 11, with almost no color shifts.
The only thing I like more on my iPhone 11 Pro Max is the higher resolution. Nothing else. I don't know if it is possible, but I would really like to see an LCD iPhone 11 Pro Max, or a new technology that will bring the advantages of LCD/IPS technology to OLED. The pentile pixel setup shows its disadvantages, when compared to LCD/IPS..

I know that LCD technology is dying, but OLED has still a long way to go..

If you think the 11 looks good, take a look at an 8 Plus. It blows the 11 away (and not just because it's bigger)

Disagree. While the difference in resolution is nice to have it certainly is hardly noticeable - at least to me after having the XR and later the 11 as loaners from work and owning the 8+ more than two years.

I love my 11 Pro Max, and I wouldn’t just leave it and use the 11. I am lucky to have both..
The thing though is that there are certain benefits in LCD technology that cannot be ignored. I understand that you would never get deep blacks, but on the other side lcd offers better pixel arrangement, viewing angles and color reproduction.

My 11 pro max and 11 pro are both brighter than the 11 that I sold to buy the pro.

If the screen in the iPhone 11 wasn’t good enough then it wouldn’t be as popular as it is. It’s not rocket science.
Not that I’m saying the screen isn’t good, but I think the main reason the 11 is popular has much more to do with the price. Even if the screen quality went down a notch (😉), it’d still sell massively because it’s the ‘affordable’ iPhone.

Oh it’s definitely the price first and foremost. The iPhone 11 still isn’t cheap in any sense of the word but it’s 90% of the phone the 11 Pro is for £300 less. Unless you’re a tech nerd you’re not going to argue over screen quality or really care enough in reality. The iPhone 11 is good enough with enough of the key features to tempt the lions share of the market without feeling like an inferior product. That’s the winning combination for most IMO.

The ‘liquid’ retina display LCD technology on the iphone XR,11 and Ipad Pro 11 has better colour reproduction and contrast than the 8 plus LCD screen for sure. 8 plus has a higher resolution 1080p screen though (401ppi) than the XR/11 (326ppi) with no notch. In an ideal world Apple should put that lovely Liquid retina display into the heavily rumoured iphone 9 plus and maintain the 1080p resolution.

Did you grab it? IIRC you had the 7 or 8?

No I’m still using the iPhone 8+. I could have upgraded in September but there wasn’t anything wrong with my current phone to warrant upgrading if I’m honest. The 8+ is still keeping up. I might get the 12 this year though if it’s along the same pricing as the 11.

casual consumer doesnt even know what PPI is, as long as the screen is sharp for video and day to day scrolling then its fine, big reason why consumers dont find anything wrong with the best selling iPhone 11, if it had a display quality of some low tier other brand that might have bigger ppi on paper but not on actual usage then they might even return it

difference in screen quality of 11 and 11 pro is unnoticeable, its not like those phones are of 50 inch wide for you to notice the sharpness

I agree, I can't tell a difference between my Pro Max and my son's 11, but there are those who will disagree...

Apart from the difference in resolution, I prefer the LCD panel. I do use both phones daily, so let me show you a small comparison pic:

I've said time and time again, if only the XR and now the 11 had the zoom lens, I'd have been all about them. That's the only reason I have my Max phones. Last year XS Max, now Pro Max. Wide angle doesn't do it for me as much as the zoom does unfortunately.
Edit: once the 7+ came out with that added zoom, I was hooked. Hook, line, and sinker...

Here you go. nice white screen, enjoy :) also only increase contrast on page before in display setting.

Well, the picture doesn't do justice to both of them. In reality the iPhone 11 display is a little red and the 11 Pro Max blue. I will try to think of a better way of showing what I mean

no point showing those again, did You try the settings above?

I did and the results are just bad. Color accuracy gets totally destroyed with the settings above. No way I would ever use them for more than 2 seconds.

You must have duds then time to swap them.
I have tried these settings on the phone of my wife (she also has an 11 Pro Max) and they are also bad. I don't think that I have defect units. These settings are just not good (at least for me). The displays I have are just fine and the blueish tint is normal in OLED..

Apple may be desperate for sales & sell the 12 cheap. You’ll be keeping them afloat! 😏

That $1200 price was also what the iPhone 6S cost, with the 6S Plus another couple of hundred more, so the flagship iPhones have gone from $1200-$1500 back then to $1750-$2500 now...Which means today’s low tier iPhone costs the same as the 6S generation flagships...
