Now, the 4S is good camera phone, but that statement is a load of garbage. The 4S doesn't hold a candle to even the original digital Rebel. I've owned 7 DSLRs and even the very first ones destroy the 4S in every way. It is much better than the 4, though.

I've got to agree. Even if he's still using the POS 18-55 (non-IS), a rebel xt or 20/30D (only 8MP canon DSLRs in recent memory) would be way superior to the 4S's camera - though the 4S is good enough to serve as a P&S for me. iPhone 4 wasn't bad either, but it sucked indoors.

lol Dang how am I going to decide between the iP4a and SGS2 now?!

It's a tough call.

This is gonna make becoming a wedding photographer much easier and cheaper!!!!! Probably gonna get all softs of referrals when people see me standing at the alter capturing the bride and groom with an iPhone and then photo streaming their joyous day. Your wedding day via iOS. Book me now!!!!!!

Ok...just to show what the 4S looks like against a real camera, I took the same shot with my Panasonic GH2...a micro 4/3 camera with a 2x crop factor (so not even the best camera I own, which is the Canon 1Ds Mark II, though I have transitioned almost entirely to m4/3 for size/weight considerations). This camera has very, very good image quality, but is not top of the line, and for pixel peepers, a 5D II, D7000 or such would be noticeably better (though not a whole lot different in print).

I ALSO have reduced the GH2's native 16MP image size down to compare in size to the iPhone 4S...to give the 4S a fighting chance...and guess what...there is no contest. the GH2 is superior in well, every way. MUCH lower noise (even though it was shot at nearly double the ISO vs the 4S), MUCH higher resolution, much better color and tonal gradation.... Gee...what a shock! (though the GH2 is better than my old Canon 30D and old Digital Rebel, those, of course, were much closer to the GH2 than to the iP4S).

Yeah and if you listen to really compressed MP3's you won't be able to tell the difference between Apple's earbuds and real headphones.

Actually this is a commonly believed myth. The difference between top of the line headphones is just as apparent, if not more so, with low quality recordings. It may not necessarily sound better, but it sure sounds different. Though now we're getting off on tangents.

Wait, now we're comparing the iP4S against micro 4/3rds cameras?! Outside of the one guy claiming that it bests his wife's DSLR's would anybody seriously compare the iP4S with a micro 4/3rds?

edit: though those pictures really should put to bed the 'the 4S isn't a noticeable improvement on the 4's camera' crowd.

I was posting to prove that there was no way the 4S could compete with a large sensor camera/DSLR and end that silly line of thought.

The iPhone 4s out shoots both of my wife's DLSR . One is an 8mp Cannon and the other is a Sony 12mp.

Anyone thinking this camera is nothing special is kidding themselves. The only thing that would make it better would be xenon for nighttime flashes.

Good thing I use Nikon then. :p

My Nikon can take hand-held pictures in moonlight, handheld without flash, and iPhone 4S cannot do the same.

eh, that seems to just be that one guy, and he seems to not be swayed by facts and comparisons. He just replies 'the proof is in me and my wife's fall pictures!'

yeah, I almost replied to that post 'subtle Nikon troll.'

yea if u zoom in 1000x the 4s looks better... but for example i wouldnt be on fb and be able to tell 4s vs 4

Well yeah Facebook compresses the quality... Who cares how it looks on Facebook if you have the full quality shot 4s blows 4 out of water.
