So In anticipation of giving a iPhone 3G to a friend, I decided to wipe the phone clean and restore it to iOS 4.0 (with potential to later jailbreak it). However, when I do attempt to restore with the 4.0 .ispw, I am met with the following:

"The iphone iphone could not be restored. The device isn't eligible for the requested build."

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I think I spoke too soon, but we'll see. I decided to download 3.1.2 and try to restore that. I don't receive any sort of message then (so far it looks like it's restoring). I'm going to see then if I can upgrade to 4.0 from there. So far, so good!
