Total agreement. The Droid ad is so 'over the top manipulative' that you've got to be really dumb to buy this phone because of this ad..
I think they assume that the viewer is smart and adult enough to see the over-the-top humor. These kind of ad's are insulting to every one watching them, they assume you're THAT stupid to fall for it
I agree that those are the types who will take such an ad seriously, but all the people I know who've bought a Droid so far, are women.Really, really poor marketing. A wast of money Verizon. All your customers will be redneck's and 16 year old boy's.

Think Different is just a joke when referring to the iPhone. With the draconian moderation of the App Store you are only allowed to "think" as Apple allows on their phone. Want to "think different"? Get a phone with an OS that lets you do what you want, not what apple wants.
The iPhone was revolutionary, perhaps what the "think different" message was intend to speak about. To my knowledge, the campaign hasn't been used recently or for the iPhone.Think Different is just a joke when referring to the iPhone. Next we can see commercials about how the iPhone is "gay."Verizon management is not very bright with this one. I thought their map commercials were good, but this is a mistake.
Also I feel sorry for them having to market the ridiculous name "droid".
They already responded to prior ads. I doubt they would respond to this one per say. However, "at least we aren't chauvinistic males..." would be an interesting ad.Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)
apple won't respond. They'll just keep doing their thing and outselling droids 10 to 1 or whatever it is. Responding only sends th message that they think the droid is a threat.
Perhaps that was the message Verizon was going for...I'm a man, so I need a girly phone.Droid? No, I'm not gay.
No, not when you become offensive.Too funny. The whole point of good advertising is to create buzz for the product. I think that it is working...this thread is proof of that.
The Droid will sell amongst Verizon users, only because the rest of their phones are crap. The real question is how many will switch because of the Droid. This has worked well considering initial sales, but Xbox-playing geek fanboys also tend to have ADHD when it comes to what's awesome. So Verizon will have to switch strategies if they want to keep sales going past Christmas. The question is whether the rest of the public will forget that they were pretty much alienated the first marketing-go-round.
Hahaha...Really, really poor marketing. A wast of money Verizon. All your customers will be redneck's and 16 year old boy's.
Exactly. How come Apple has the only successful app store?
Perhaps end users are willing to pay for convenience and no malware.
How come before Apple iPhone the phones on the market don't let you do what you want, by requiring a thick cryptic manual that most people just don't carry around with their phone?
Apple should/could have fun with this messaging and remind people to Think Different. As in - DON'T be a robot.
This would be a horrible idea. What are they going to say? Be different - all of our phones have a black background! How is one iPhone different from the next? They all look exactly the same besides user content (apps, contacts, and your text messages). When I had an iPhone, I would often grab one of my friends by mistake. There is no way to distinguish iPhones besides app placement, or by a case etc. They offer little in the way of customization. That being said, I think the ads are moronic and am not sure why they keep referring to the phones as robots.

Hopefully the reader is smart and sees the over-the-top humor of my post.
I thought the advertisement was very much geared towards guys. If you're a woman, and she makes the purchasing decisions for the household, you're not going to consider the droid. Unless the hubster or kid whines about how they really want the droid, the woman is going to pick something else. Hell, she'll probably consider the iPhone. It looks like a straight fact that Verizon is putting up a "no girls allowed" sign on the droid.
You point out that it's really just an analogy (and you're right about that). But when you make an analogy showing that "female" = "our competition" you're pretty much ASKING women to take their money elsewhere.
The inclusion of the side effects is mandated by the FDA, IIRC. I personally like the meds for depression that add they might make you commit suicide. That sounds like a real winner there.I do love American adds. Like your medicine adds that go on about how wonderful they can make your day then finish off by listing every possible side effect![]()
Although your comments are valid - there's a difference between thinking different and being different. It's semantics on how you interpret Think Different. Is the emphasis on THINK or DIFFERENT. If it's on DIFFERENT - then your case (personalization) is very valid. If it's on THINK - then we agree that the term robot here is a silly.
Aren't all moves by verizon dumb??
