Unless you're Susan from Neighbours... :D

I took this photo yesterday off the tv.

I'm not sure whats worse. Her holding the phone upside down or me watching Neighbours?

it's not the people, it's the producers.

if they use the phone properly, then they have to give Apple money
You're on the right track, but that's not quite true.

Many films and TV shows have 'product placement' in which brands pay to have their products shown or used on-screen.

Due to this, producers need to make sure that no un-sponsored brands accidentally show up in the production as that devalues the appearance(s) of the paid for advertising. Which is why you often see logos covered up or hidden.

There is also the problem of brand defamation, in which a product is seen in a negative light (for example, if a DeWalt tool is being used to kill someone in a film) and that can make the producers vulnerable to legal action. But this is rarely the case.

I don't know if you watch Neighbours but it looks like its sponsored by Apple

Ha! For better or worse I haven't watched Neighbours since I was 12 (joys of being an 80's child...) but based on the screenshot above, I think it's unlikely that is paid-for product placement.

From a previous life in production, I can tell you that any and all product placement is contractually arranged down to the letter in ridiculous detail. It would take an incredibly sloppy producer for something like that to slip though (and turning products around or upside down was always the go-to method of hiding branding).

I could be wrong, but I'm just going on my past experience wrangling sponsorship.

I shouldn't really watch it but hey ho. But FYI the schools are equiped with iMacs, every cast member seems to own a MBP except Paul who owns and MBA.

Only a few have the phones and clearly can't use them. haha
