The iPhone isn't smart enough to NOT go to sleep while downloading apps or buffering?

This is a bug that has been bugging me and still hasn't been fixed. While installing Apps, I usually would just set my phone down and let it finish the download so that way I can play with the apps later when they're finished.

Another is when a video is buffering...

Instead the iPhone still goes to sleep at it's predetermined time and the activity that it was supposed to do STOPS!

    Settings > General > Auto-Lock > Never

I shouldn't have to do this every time, as I don't want it to be on never normally.

Agreed. But I've never had an app stop downloading because the phone was asleep, or wasn't aware of it.

Your iPhone can be asleep and apps will still download. Thats how Newsstand works or the new App sync. I download an app on my iPad and it's on my iPhone or vice versa. Pretty sure neither device magically wakes themselves up and downloads it.

I thought sleep didn't interrupt app/whatever else that's downloading. I mean, I've never ran into that issue.
