Why on earth would they reuse the name?

As I said, it wouldn't be Apple-like, but they've already not been Apple-like. There was the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. In each case, the 3G signified the network capability. Assuming they aren't creating a 4G device, they would reuse the 3G moniker as they have the last two years. Assuming they still consider the device fast speedy, they keep the S. And they add something else. Like iPhone 3GS-HD. Like I said, it's not Apple-like, and I don't expect it, but it was speculation. I don't expect it in that nothing is usually as I expect it. Not only that, I have no idea what to expect this time. I do think they have a quandary with naming the next device.

I think to be actually apple-like they would have named every one simply iPhone. The problem popped up when AT&Ts 3g network wasn't available in enough places to not offer a 2g version, so they had to distinguish between the two. Maybe they'll just go back to plain old "iPhone" this time.

Agreed. "Oh-ess ten" has always been the correct, and official Apple, pronunciation.

Pronouncing the "X" phonetically makes it sound a little obscene, like "Oh-ess-sex" or something. Not what Apple wants!

You think the letter X sounds obscene? Wow.

i doubt it will be called iPhone HD, for 1 reason:
other devices such as the Zune HD already use HD in their name and it wouldn't be very apple like to copy them.

but hey, we will find out if i'm wrong soon enough

I too would like for it to simply be called iPhone. 3GS was too many letters/numbers, un-Apple like!

Or what about iPhone A/V? iChat was called iChat A/V when it first got video support.

I guess it would be kinda silly to call a phone that though...

I think it's between iPhone HD and iPhone 4.

as long as Apple doesn't mis-use the word HD like Microsoft did with the Zune, then I also wouldn't mind it being called the iPhone HD.

iPhone 4 makes no sense because Apple never numbers their products like the press does. Apple always says the Current iPod nano now does video, not the 5th Generation iPod nano does video.

It will be called..."The iPhone that launched a million threads about what it will be called"

So there has been a lot of discussion about the next iPhone being called the 4 or HD or 4G or whatever.

Does anyone else think that it may be called something else entirely... Like X or XL.

Thoughts?

It will be called iPhone HD.
