iPod The ipod cannot be synced error (Using Mac OS X)

My ipod Classic has been working great until the issue with the chord being lose or something and now I get the error that says

"the ipod (insert name here) cannot by synced. The required disk cannot be found" Or something like that.

I'm using Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) can anyone recommend anything to fix it?
