I'm typing this on my brand new 15 inch MBP 2018. The keyboard is as advertised much quieter and the tactile feedback improvement is quiet obvious that I can feel the keys moving back up quickly. It is quite different from my poor 2016 MBP keyboard which is so loud and just by typing on it I feel like breaking it already.

Together with the nice hardware upgrade I think this is quite a great update overall.

Lesson learnt: never buy any first gen product from Apple (well, the iPhone X is an exception). Wait for the 3rd gen...

I'm gonna have to disagree. I am working on a 2017 MacBook Pro (13 inch no touchbar). Technically it's the second iteration of the keyboard. Yesterday I had to go to Apple and had to wait quite a bit while they were working on one of my devices so I used the opportunity to buy some stuff I dont need :) and to play with the new Macbooks. I am even more disappointed in the keyboard now. It feels even more shallow and the fact that they made it quieter doesn't help people like me who want an audible click from every key when we type. I type a lot, I write content and use my computer for work. I have gotten used to the new keyboard, but I find myself constantly going back to my Macbook Air for that oldschool feel when I type.
I hope they rethink this keyboard situation.

OP. I have the '16 as well. How does the body structure feel like? going a little off topic...my keyboard frame feels like its flexing each time i type quick or hit the keys harder.

I tried the 2018 for about 15 minutes at the Apple store. Feels identical to my crappy 2016 keyboard. No difference in key feel (I’m a touch typist for what it’s worth). Definitely a lower pitched sound, though.

My 2016's keyboard was probably too bad to begin with so the current one really feels quite a bit different.

Its been suggested before that the keyboards may have some variations from copy to copy and that perceived changes may either simply be psychological or merely the result of variance in the manufacturing process. As long as you're happy with your new 2018 is all that matters though.

It's still very much an aduible click and your only use is an Apple store, which I would assume was rather noisy because they always are.

You said

And after
but I find myself constantly going back to my Macbook Air for that oldschool feel

Since even the 2018 is louder than macbook air...you kind of contradict yourself
Since i have the 2018,after 2 long years with the 2016\2017 pass bec of the keys..i think this is the best keyboard apple has ever made..my 2014 macbook pro is feeling very wobbly and the light bleed it gives you a feel Of cheapness

I have a 2017. How much different is the keyboard? I’m actually a part of the minority that likes the keyboard on my 2017. Is this mainly for those with the 2016 model?

I am with you on the keyboard, spent time typing on both the 16 and 18 this weekend, while it is still a butterfly keyboard, I noticed the differences as well. Maybe it depends on how you type.

All they did was add a very thin silicone membrane that covers the butterfly mechanism. I think this is a clever way to not admit that the old design was prone to debris getting in there and making keys non-functional. They've essentially fixed that and as a convenient by-product we get slightly quieter keys. They're just avoiding admitting that there was an issue with the old keyboard cause they don't wanna back themselves into a corner. I happen to be one of the lucky ones I guess and I've had no issues with my Pro at all. I am considering upgrading though cause I like the Truetone function and the higher specs.

Being a silicone material, that covers the stainless steel dome, they kill 3 rabbits from 1 shot. No more dust or sticky keys,a silent key and a nicer feel that you dont press right on steel..i think with 2 layers of silicone they could reproduce the 2012-2015 keyboard feel
