If you didn't know, with iOS 5, you have global keyboard shortcuts at your disposal.

They can be added by going to Settings->General->Keyboard->"Add new Shortcut..."

I got the following shortcuts from this article and I think they are really convenient:

drv - "I'm driving right now and will respond to your message later."
rl8 - "I'm running late."
eml - your e-mail address.
phn - your phone number.
adr - your street address (Shortcuts don't allow line returns, so you can't insert a complete mailing address unless you're OK having it in one line).
adr2 - your city, state, and ZIP code (still much faster than typing out the entire thing)
fb - your Facebook address
twt- your Twitter address
sig1 - an e-mail signature you can use in place of the one you've already configured--great if you want a substitute signature for, say, business correspondence. Add sig2, sig3, and so on if you want a multiline signature.
weba - the URL for your blog, Web site, or other Web address.

User submitted:

bww - Buffalo Wild Wings (sakau2007)
cfb - college football (sakau2007)
http - http:// (sakau2007)
iln - I'm leaving now (sakau2007)
pw - password (sakau2007)
dint - don't (scootaru)

Tip from redscull: If you don't use auto-correct, use Shortcuts for common contractions so you don't have to manually add the apostrophe.

Feel free to add your own or link to other websites that have a good list already started.

a few others i use:

bww = Buffalo Wild Wings
cfb = college football
http = http://
iln = I'm leaving now
pw = password

I put all my common contractions in there because I don't like how much effort it takes to get to the apostrophe on the keyboard. And because I turned auto-correct off to maintain my sanity. It's too bad the shortcut can't use spaces though; I'm tire of manually capitalizing i.

I did this too.

I just thought of another I'm going to add to the list. I always spell "dint" instead of "don't". I will never use dint in a sentence so I added it to my Shortcuts.
