The unemployment rate in Rhode Island is already over 10%. This has already just started. I expect to see 20% before this thing peaks in 3 more years.

what type of jobs where predominantly lost in RI?

in the boston area are certainly a lot of jobs lost as well but i somehow don't know anyone who lost his/her job. i also don't see any effects of the downturn yet, shops are still crowded, apple stores sell stuff like crazy, traffic during rush hour is still bad. i just hope i keep my job for the next two years. after that i think the job market will get better.

My hours have been cut in half, and the sales team has lost 3 people, Which brings us down to 2 salesmen. The dev team (6 including myself) is still here though, but we are really hurting for money right now.

It wasn't until recently that I knew someone that has gotten laid off and that seemed to start a ball rolling down a hill effect as right after that, several other friends got laid off

Lower-level jobs though

A receptionist just got laid off at my company. In all honesty, it should have happened months and months ago, but nonetheless - it's scary.

When am I next?

Same here. I went to Best Buy and see a long line.

"Where the is the recession I keep hearing about?" I thought.

What, do you expect to walk into Best Buy and find it empty, with tumble weed rolling across the floor?

Even during the Great Depression, some sort of business still took place.
