However, I am looking at the logic board for a Dual 500Mhz machine in GSX right now which is labeled as "In Stock". That part about them not making the part anymore makes the story less believable because the part probably would still be out of stock. Or, they would have said that the part was out of stock and backordered. There are no parts constraints on the MLB, either.

On the other hand, the described problem does sound like a logic board issue and the fact that the Dual 500 was the top of the line doesn't sound totally unreasonable. Though, I would think they would give the friend a Dual 1.25 G4 before handing out a Dual 2. It does make a bit of sense, though.
you might want to watch out what you post since you work for a reseller, gsx information could easily be confidential.
