To be totally honest the chip is a let down in other dimensions. What is amazing is they have taken the maximum number of cores possible from the last Mac Pro and have now made it with one chip. What sucks is that it won't have a Haswell-E chip seeing as Haswell-E supposedly supports ddr4. ddr4 would be creme de la creme.

You forgot:

Group 3) I'm not a Pro, but pretend I am. I have no idea what I'm talking about and the Mac Pro sucks because it isn't a pro machine.

Group 4) I am an Apple basher and nothing Apple makes is any good. I am completely clueless and never read articles. The Mac Pro sucks because its welded shut at the factory and self destructs if you try to upgrade it.

You don't seem to understand... There are people who will never be satisfied. There are people who will always find something to complain about. We don't even know what this machine is capable of yet and some people are doing nothing but complaining.

Judging by your signature, you didn't get a dual CPU Mac Pro even when they were an option. You even opted for 4 cores instead of 6, so why are you so bothered by a single CPU now?

Otherwise as a windows 7 user I have found the points you made interesting, as have those of the OP. Very educational for me-while I have been mulling getting a Mac as my next computer (most lilkely an iMac) I have no real interest in the "Prosumer" end. However, as I know people who work in video editing and used Macs (iMacs again) during a Photoshop course I took last year I have an interested outsiders view.

There are people who need more power? When is it enough? The answer is never. Will it be powerful enough for what end users need it to do? That remains to be seen.... it will be much faster than anything running right now.

Intel's supposed roadmap states a Haswel-E release for the end of this year... so maybe there still is time? The sneak peak page at Apple says that any specification given is subject to change at anytime so...?

I know what you point is, you used a bad example. You not going to please everybody but this is polarizing, just like Windows 8 except it'll cost 3k not $150.

This is Apple cost shifting, and sacrificing functionality for design. It matter not one iota to me how it performs I wouldn't buy it if it was a quantum computer it sacrifices the thing that I and many people put value in. This is the part you don't want to understand. If this had been a me too computer/xMac the boards would be filled with excitement because they hit both sets of folks however that is not what they did.

It'll be faster than current but will hit the RAM ceiling quickly without spending 2800 to 4K on RAM.

If your gripe is with lost of drive bays and PCIe slots, that's fine. Don't complain about it having just one CPU when "it matters not one iota to you how it performs" and "you wouldn't buy it if it was a quantum computer". Just say you want to be able to swap out video cards and put some drives in it.

Once some specs and benchmarks are released and they're to my satisfaction, I'll probably get one. Been looking forward to a dramatic update to this product line for some time now, and in my eyes, they haven't disappointed.

I wasn't complaining about the processors, others were. I said the upgrade to the current 12 core 24 thread would be 24 core 48 thread..that where you went off on performance.

I also like how you high light the fact of how some people who mock this new design does so because he / she could probably never had afforded the previous model as it sat when it was available. Price wise I am sure you get what you pay for and the Mac Pro is the Apple high-end line if you will but as I don't recall what the starting base models started at I'm quite sure it wasn't too far fetched from a max spec iMac or Macbook Pro.

I can say right now that having not have purchased the new iMacs I would definitely consider one of these depending on the overall clutter by the means of how many things I would probably need to hook up to it. A 4TB minimum HD would be fine for me and a nice Thunderbolt 27" monitor would also suit it nicely as well. But as with all my setups I hate having wire clutter. Speakers, Printers, etc etc. All these little odds and ends things will lead you to have lots of wire clutter and with how the form factor sits it would be a chellenge to keep the area around such a beautiful machine nice and clean.

My main computer that I use that is a mandatory requirement slated by the learning institution I attend is a Toshiba Protege running Windows 7. I have built two computers for my dear parents that run Windows 7 and Linux. While its true that if you try your absolute hardest you can put a computer into a toilet there is no company in the world that is profitable from doing so. The form factors you describe are mostly user made. If you can find a company that is making money and selling computer cases as small as 10in by 6in with some amazingly simple heat sink please provide me with a link? Also a socket LGA 1150 motherboard to fit would also be nice? Sony has not made a design like the Mac Pro? It must be soo impressive that Sony still make Viao desktops right?! Oh wait? The base model previous generation without a screen or even mouse or keyboard was $3000, that's pretty far fetched... Well the solution to your problem is a daisychained Thunderbolt display with a Western Digital My Book Thunderbolt Duo, the Mac Pro is wireless so no need for Ethernet, wireless Apple keyboard and mouse of course, wifi wireless printer and wireless speakers. Problem solved.

Let me fix this for you :

Group 3) I'm not a Pro, but pretend I am. I have no idea what I'm talking about and the new Mac Pro rules because it's tiny and shiny and I say I want to buy one but never will and I don't care about nor understand the needs of other people and the iPad is plenty enough for 99% of users .

Group 4) I am an Apple fanboy and everything Apple ever makes changes the world for the better. I am completely clueless and never listen. The iPad rules because its welded shut at the factory and self destructs if you try to upgrade it, and MacPros should too, because Apple knows best and proprietary systems improve the user experience. For 99% .

The current and older Mac Pros will still need support for dual processors in Mavericks.

Apple has a good history of dropping support for older products in the name of innovation. Remember the last Mac Pro update only came about because Intel stopped making the chip that was used in them.

Nor does that post say anything about later Mac Pros?
