On 27 April, 2015 Newellj started an interesting thread explaining that one of the reasons he returned his new rMB was the keyboard.

And now we have a newcomer, who became a member on 2 May, 2015 (i.e. today) and started a thread with an intention to prove that "the MacBook's keyboard is superb".

What a coincidence.

I am lurking on this sub forum since the launch of the Macbook w/o contributing myself since I didn't have any contact with the new MBs. Then, I read this one post where Newellj returned his Macbook bc of the keyboard. Yesterday, I tried the new Macbook myself (yesterday was MB's launch day in Berlin's Apple store) and I am not an Apple fanboy at all but I thought that this mentioned post is the most misleading thread in the MB forum and needs to be clarified (and btw I clearly referenced him in my first post, so there's no need to come with some conspiracy theories).

I can imagine that people return the MB because of the CPU (which still masters 90% of all uses cases) or the price but def. not because of the keyboard. The keyboard is just a masterpiece of engineering and better than the older ones--right after I left the store I was urged to write my opinion from my smartphone. And in a second post I gave more reasons why this thing is even better than the old keyboards. And even people with monster hands and sausages fingers should benefit from the increased key size.

However, did you try the MB's keyboard already yourself?? If yes you will agree that the mentioned post about returning the MB is very misleading.

So no coincidence.

Key board

Love the new keyboard. Its effortless and super efficient. Kind of reminds me of the future predictions we saw of the iPhone, projecting a virtual keyboard onto your desk. Its a similar feeling but a minimal feedback mechanism.

Just simply love the keyboard on the rMB. I also have a 13" rMBP for work and can't wait for this keyboard to arrive to the pro lineup.

Touch typist here, not a very fast one though (60-70 wpm). I expected to hate the keyboard because I'm used to my mechanicals like my Matias, Das, and Realforce keyboards. However, after trying the Macbook its actually not that bad. It has a nice crispy tactility to it despite of having very tiny throw. Since you bottom out pretty quickly I can understand its a jarring experience for those who are used to striking the keys as they type but if you simply tap its very pleasant - at least for me.

I don't think that this post of yours should be commented at all as the content makes it too obvious.

Nevertheless, it should be made clear that other opinions, like Newellj's reflect different experience, views which is natural and as such to call them "misleading" is irresponsible to say the least.

There are no conspiracy theories just clear signs that make your motivation unequivocal. Like a nickname of a one-day user intending to prove wrong long time members outright experiences shared with the community, i.e.:

sbyom - derives from Russian word "сбить/бить" which means "to knockdown, to beat down". I guess in this case to show the real intention of a poster concerning the opinion of others. So much for the conspiracy theories, you have asked for.

What keyboard you like is a very personal thing. I am not surprised that not everyone likes it. We're all different.

I have owned this macbook since 30 April. There are days when I love this keyboard and there are days when I wished that there was more key travel. At this point, I find that I am still making errors, the surface of the each key feels way too smooth. I have always used a Moshi keyboard protector on my other MacBooks, so I am getting used to typing on keys with less grip. I am not sure if I will experience fatigue from typing for a long time on this computer. Only time will tell if I absolutely love or dislike this keyboard.

O M G, it's been 48h since ive had my rMB and I LLOOOVVVVEEE the keyboard. At first I did not like it at all. But I love the clickiness so much. And the strangest thing is that I type so fast on it...a reviewer (forgot who) said the same, and I'm typing at least twice as fast.

I really love this keyboard. Praying that they put one out for the iMac soon

Question: When will we know that Apple is fully committed to the new keyboard?

Answer: When they roll it out in the wireless bluetooth keyboard.

:) :apple:

Yeah. Expected to like it or at least get used to it - didn't happen in 13 days. :(

I haven't purchased because I am waiting to try it out. I was in London last week and should have gone to the Regent street store, but I was too busy drinking every evening.

Just got my space grey 1.1 today. Absolutely love the keyboard.

No problems typing perfectly well with it.

Haters gonna hate.

I received my SG 1.2/512 MacBook on the 15th of April, and have been using it every day since. Much of my job involves writing, to the tune of about 6,000-10,000 words per week. I've not only acclimated to the new keyboard, I've totally fallen for it. I went back to a MacBook Air (13") keyboard for a few minutes one day (my son's machine) and immediately missed the new MacBook keyboard. I believe I'm much faster and more accurate on the new keyboard, and that it requires somewhat less pressure to depress the keys. Once you get into a groove with it, your fingers fly across the keys much more naturally, in my opinion. The decreased travel is easy to get used to as well, and I believe actually aids in easier typing. There is plenty of tactile feedback, and typing on this new keyboard is nothing at all like typing on an iPad screen, as some suggested early on.

Just a little update. I said that the keyboard was prone to Sweat print in a previous post. Although today is the 3rd day using it and I dont see anymore sweat print. Maybe apple put some sort of coating on the keys which after heavy use is gone.....either ways I see not print on there anymore.

Also, I still can't believe I am typing on this keyboard...I go so fast and its more precise. I really ove this keyboard.

I just had to chime in: I really like the new keyboard as well. I still make the occasional error, but I'm honestly not the best typist. My only issue with it originally was the noise. It seems way louder than my previous MBA's or MBP, especially when typing in a quiet room. But now I kind of like the added cliché sound and miss it if I'm working on a different laptop.

A noisy click-clacking keyboard is NOT what I can use!

So sad that you and other posters who have used the rMB keyboard report that it is so noisy:

For example, you wrote: "It seems way louder than my previous MBA's or MBP, especially when typing in a quiet room."

I am a writer who often will do my writing in rooms (and meetings) that such a clearly audible (?) noise from the act of writing is NOT WELCOMED AT ALL.

If you're right about this, I must say that Apple has made a keyboard that will be a problem for many, at least on this point - or also on this point.

I really like the keyboard on the Macbook. It feels really nice under the fingers, really only coming second to my full sized mechanical keyboard with Cherry Red switches. I now prefer it to the keyboards on the iMac or on the rMBP.

Very fast and accurate as a touch typist after just a short period of time adapt. Quite a satisfying noise as the keys get struck I feel.

All in all adds to a really good experience having the full width keyboard.

In order to reduce the noise I'm leaning to touch the keys vs. "typing". When I'm able to do so my typing speed increases and the noise decreases. But banging on the space bar my just be too ingrained a habit to change. Fortunately I don't need to use this machine in complete silence so it's okay.

The noise it makes is actually one of my favorite features. It sounds really satisfying hearing the "click click click". It reminds me of a type writer.

Would the noise/click be too loud for say, a lecture hall? As in whilst a lecture is going on, does the rMB make more noise than say a rMBP or MBA keyboard?
