We discuss all of the new Macs Apple is expected to release this year, starting with the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro, on this week's episode of The MacRumors Show.

Following the release of the M5 MacBook Pro last year, Apple is expected to launch refreshed high-end MacBook Pro models with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. They are rumored to arrive alongside macOS Tahoe 26.3 in the next few weeks. Stock of the current M4 Pro and M4 Max models is dwindling, suggesting that the announcement is now impending.

After that release, we are expecting M5-series chips to come to the MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Mac Studio at the very least. Whether the iMac and the Mac Pro will get an M5 chip remains an open question.

Apple is also rumored to launch an all-new low-cost MacBook this year, featuring the A18 Pro chip for comparable performance to the M1 chip. It is expected to feature a 13-inch LCD display, USB-C connectivity only, and a price point somewhere between $699 and $899. iPad-like Silver, Blue, Pink, and Yellow color options are also rumored.

Toward the end of the year, Apple is expected to launch significantly upgraded MacBook Pro models. The new machines are rumored to feature M6-series chips, a cellular connectivity option, OLED touchscreen displays, a hole-punch in the screen for the front-facing camera, and a thinner, lighter design.

I am still happy with my base M1 Air. They made it too good.

I really like my M4 Mini and I'm sure it will serve me well for several years to come.
Coming from Windows, I hope that we will see a MacBook Air with a 5G modem at some point. 5G connectivity is why I still keep a Surface Pro around.
Seeing that the MacBook Pro will have one is a very good sign.

Agree re: comments about the weird disdain for touchscreens on Macs. Having touchscreen tech present won't hurt Mac users who won't use it, other than the device maybe (MAYBE) costing a little more. I promise not to touch your screens and leave fingerprints on them lol.

I heard there was going to be a macbook pro with a 5-series RTX graphics card and native dual boot into Steam OS.

That's what I heard.

Fully agree with the Yoga Type Touch Functionality: I want that as well - one device less to carry.
At home, I would still continue to use an iPad and a MacBook - but for travel that is good enough.
Currently I carry three devices - MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and a Kindle Scrive.
That would be MacBook Pro (Yoga) and a Kindle Scrive (or something better but similar) in the future.

A secondhand M1 MacBook Air might be an option for you? Just get one with enough RAM.
i certainly agree that the MacBook air m1 is the most similar and practical replacement since:
- similar tapered design, though not as beautiful.
- very powerful m1 still

but...
Those with the 12" MacBook understand...

No on the MacBook Air. We want a very light Mac with a 12" Screen.
the 12-inch MacBook isn't just a computer, it's also a:
- iPad replacment ultra thin and light computer
- a netbook with full fledge computing software
- and importantly, it's also a fashion accessory.
it's beautifully design to the point of it being a high-end accessory/ luxury item to me.

i regard it as the most beautifully designed laptop computer of all time.
Touchscreen AND cellular conductivity? What did we do to deserve this? (Sheesh it’s about time.)
lols! apple could have done this 10 years ago, but they need to sell their iPads and iPhones lol
and preferably all three devices!

Agree with everything you said. I also have a M3 MacBook Air (fully loaded), but I also have a 12" MacBook 2015 Gold that I still use (almost daily at times). Love the design, it is beautiful still after 11 years.

I agree that to me it is "the most beautifully designed laptop computer of all time".

I have always said that if it had an M1 chip in it, and a fixed keyboard...I would say the best ever period. Not about power, but because it would be able to do a little bit on everything as well as look gorgeous at the same time.

you've got it 100%

an M chip inside that chassis or slightly bigger one would be a dream.

also, by fully loaded, you mean you maxed out the SSD? man i wish i could, but i just cannot bring myself to paying such extortionate pricing for storage (i ended up getting a 4TB samsung SSD for 300USD and plugging it into my window's gaming PC, and moving my photography work library there instead lol).

and yes, the form factor means it's a computer you can almost always have with you. the freedom to work from literally anywhere in the world (without carrying a burden) is special to me.

“Fully maxed” mean on the M3 MacBook Air I have 24GB RAM and 2TB of SSD. That enables me to do a little bit of everything when moving around since my M1 “16 MacBook Pro 2021 is heavy (usually stays on the desk).

My 12” Macbook 2015 has 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD. I picked it up on Amazon because I had some gift money and it was cheap at the time. I could have bought at the time a 16GB of RAM Space Grey, but though since I have the new at the time MacBook Air, there was no need. Plus, I wanted gold. Shot myself in the foot later…should have gotten that one.

I don’t normally just buy for looks or try out but thought since it was so cheap at the time..and gift money I said “why not”…

Well…it was in perfect condition and it looked like the keyboard was replaced due to the recall some time back. I immediately got attached to it due to the size, weight, VERY convenient in travel and mostly…loved the look. Went to Apple and replaced the battery and the guy who serviced it was impressed about the condition of it. Looks like they fixed the port that was loose during the battery replacement. So when I got it back it ran as if new with decent battery life…2015 very under powered, but ran good for general tasks.

THAT old 2015 MacBook became my general Laptop everyday even though I have other newer Mac’s for work etc. just love it. Would never pay the price when it was new (or even though to get one), but once in my hand and practical size for travel usage..I would consider now.

Hope they came out with another sometime with a M-series chip…❤️
