i think we soon will see a change in phones hardware; memory and chips. much more usage of cloud/ai/5g. maybe the base iphone models first. less local processes = cheaper phones.

Apple can to hell. I won't be buying anything at these prices.

Normal people can't afford these things anymore. The whole world is squeezing us from every direction AND WE"VE HAD ENOUGH.

I WON'T BE BUYING A GOD DAMNED THING.
There could be a real market opportunity for Perifractic, Christian Simpson's reconstituted Commodore back as a Neo-retro company.

Perhaps there could be an even greater audience for FPGA-based old-school hardware that's larger than nostalgia.

I wonder if phone carriers will still have the “on us” type promotion. If that’s the case, the price of the phone doesn’t matter much. But I could also see carriers coming out with a new plan to make up the difference and only that plan will get the on us promo.

It's never really "on us" though... the price is just amortized over the length of the contract. So the portion of the monthly contract payments that go to servicing the device payments will go up by a similar amount.

Of course that's easier for consumers to swallow (say average contract price goes up $15/month), but it still is a thing.

Even with a 'free' out of contract iPhone mini 13, I decided to switch to prepay after the 6th month, and Verizon immediately balance billed nearly $400 to do so.

Well given that Apple products have been priced at premium rates for years now, and especially given that we in the UK have the dollar tax so that we can ignore currency rates and simply go on a 1:1 ratio, what have aways been "expensive" now become "too expensive", and all so that idiots on social media can share AI slop.

I'm hoping this will be Tim Cook's lasting legacy: leaving Apple with a slump in sales.
