The 17 phones just came out. I don't understand the point of speculating about ones that won't come out for another year?? It seems like the tech community is being extra aggressive with that this year. It's like the stores that bring out their holiday stuff too early, but this is like almost a year early??
Yeah it bums me out. I am about to buy an iPhone 17pro coming from a 12 pro and its like dang...let me enjoy this haha

The only “huge upgrade” on the horizon (for me at least) is the iPhone Fold.

Continual spec bumps on the same old metal and glass rectangle has become extremely difficult to get excited about.

Only Macrumours calls "new colors, faster chip, bigger battery, upgraded camera" a "huge upgrade".

I call it "Same upgrades as every year."
We’re living in an era where it’s just minor upgrades to the same devices we’ve been using for years. The Vision Pro hasn’t caught on and is probably not a useful tool/toy for most people. Having lived to see the very first Macs and the dawn of a graphic interface, flat screen monitors, os10, the iPod, and then the iPhone (which is kind of where we’ve stopped … well, iPads are great, but they’re essentially a giant iPhone.) the last 10 years of Apple product development seems a bit of a snooze.

You want them to speculate about the phones that just came out? This is a rumors website called MacRumors, and this is an episode of the MacRumors show.

The source giving the info has also given multiple accurate information in the past. Do you know how you will be guaranteed to not be upset by the rumors published here?

Yeah, I never said any of this was bad. I'm just criticizing the clickbait headline.

Still waiting for 8k video the camera has been capable of for 3/4? versions now.

Do you think MR would continue to receive invitations to Apple Park if the title above read iPhone 18 Pro Looks Like a Lame/Meh/Weak/Minor Upgrade? Other than the variable aperture upgrade to the camera which would probably be of most interest to serious photographers, there’s nothing really noteworthy. If you’re not getting the 17 Pro, might as well wait until the twentieth anniversary iPhone 20 Pro comes out in 2027 with more significant updates and a design change with the screen.

Wasn’t this iPhone supposed to have a foldable screen? That was exactly why I decided not to buy the current model.

And yet here you are reading and commenting. I think that IS the point.

Shouldn’t it be called the iPhone 27 to be consistent with iPhoneOS release numbering? E.g., iPhoneOS 27 is released in 2026, so the 2026 iPhones should be called the iPhone 27.

Hanging onto my Mini FOREVER. I don't want to lug around an anchor in my pocket.
I was a Mini users now I’m enjoying an iPhone Air. Yeah it is bigger but many things work related is made on my iPhone now and bigger screen is ok for me if the phone is slimmer and lighter. Battery life is still awesome, pretty impressive.

When the newest devices have finally been purchased after a long wait and that empty feeling sets in again, one has to find a new purpose in life by speculating about the next device again.

I'm not sure any huge upgrades are possible with this form factor in a consumer device. The screen is already beautiful, the user interface is fast and fluid, the cameras already are better than what 99% of people would notice, the internet is fast enough not to think about unless there's a weak signal, the device can be dunked in a swimming pool, the speakers are plenty loud enough to annoy everyone around you, and so on.

What I’ve learned from this article about iPhone 18:
1) New colors that no one needs (based on how quick ppl want to change from orange to regular silver)
2) Thicker phone, no thanks. iPhone 17 Pro is already a heavy af
3) Incremental camera upgrade? Not worth it.
In conclusion, I think I’ll be sticking with my 17 Pro for the next 5 years because it is highly unlikely Apple will change design drastically and chips are already so powerful I don’t use even 20% of it’s strengths.

huge update? new colors and better cameras?
Is Apple blind to what Huawei and others are doing?
Trifold phones, an iPhone 17 "clone" with a super useful back screen, laptops with touch screens and so much more...
Apple needs new ideas and new leadership asap.

I’m still happy with my 11pro as my travel phone except for the battery life. It always comes back to having “enough” battery life to make it through the day.

Color? Nobody cares what color my phone is underneath my silicone case and in my pocket 🤭
