My wife has it and it’s really nice. I’ve got every Pro Max model since the 11PM, but if they add another camera to the Air then it’s my next phone. I don’t get the complaints about battery life. It’s as good as the 16 Pro.
That argument made some sense in September 2025. Now with iOS 27 in play, less so.

Analyzed the 6000 iPhone 15 Pro photos I took and Exiftool has me at 70% main camera (24/28/35/48mm crop modes). 18% ultra wide (0.5x) and 12% telephoto (3x).
If they add the ultra wide I'm here for the Air. I can get by without the tele.

No you cannot have an iPhone Mini; we're going to produce an even less desirable "small" device that still feels huge in the hand! And we think you're gonna ... uh well, not buy it.
There is also the simple fact that as the iPhone line continues to get more models, not every single one can be a best seller in the market. The whole point of expanding a product line is to get more niche markets, and because they are niche they will sell less in volume

Maybe there just isn't a fourth slot that works. The Mini didn't. The Plus didn't. And now the Air isn't? Each device had its fans, and they were often vociferous in their defense. That didn't matter to Apple. I guess we'll see if the Air 2 can buck the trend.
IMHO I didn't buy the Air because of the specs, I bought it because of the form factor. I am a caseless guy and that puts the Air way over the top. The camera and battery life are more than adequate for my use, and the screen is bigger and better than the others too - not picky about OLED.
While Apple's feeling experimental, they should swap the iPhone Air for a new iPhone Mini with 5.4" screen. I bet it would get better demand, even if priced at $999.

Interesting. When I pre-ordered my 17PM, I actually considered a switch from the Pro series (previously, never so much as a thought) to Air. When I finally got to a store and held one, I was shocked at how laughably thin and light it was - without sacrificing screen size. Not since the '07 debut have I held an iPhone and felt more like I was holding the future. From a how-it-feels-in-hand perspective, it's the coolest iPhone they've built to date (IMO).
Like many hav encored: it's possibly a wide-angle, larger battery and (now highly unlikely) price drop away from me actually giving one a spin for a cycle. We'll see.

I'm just ready for an all-in-one device. Foldable iphone that runs iOS when closed, ipadOS when open, and MacOS when docked.

iPhone air is beautiful phone, but the battery life made me choose the 17e over it. No regrets. I mean 12 gigs of ram is nice but I only use my phone for staying connected. I'd rather have the 4000 mAh battery in 17e.
My main concerns were: Battery life and ergonomics. The 17e weighs just 4 grams more and has a 6.1 screen giving it not better ergonomics but more preferable design in my case. Since I use iPhone + iPad Mini, I prefer also 6.1" screen cause for anything else I have my Mini 7 to take care of.

Because of the special Siri AI voice features with 12GB? I think most people couldn’t care less about that.
I just don't see that many consumers want this device. Apple you're wasting your time and money.
I think Apple should go “all in” on making the Air truly an Air. By that, I mean making it as thin as possible, without the camera bump.
Right now, the camera doesn’t really make sense either way. On one hand, it’s not good enough for people who actually care about having a great camera. On the other hand, people who don’t care much about the camera still have to carry around a thicker phone because of that huge camera bump.
The regular iPhone and the Pro already have great cameras.
So why not go all in with the Air? Make it even thinner and give it a simpler, slightly worse camera. Make thinness the whole point.

The Air might have stood a chance a year earlier but the improvements to the regular 17 really undercut it. I had wanted a lighter phone that had ProMotion back when the Pros still had steel frames. The titanium Pro was a step in the right direction, but still could have been lighter. The Air might have been it, but then the regular 17 got ProMotion too. Combine that with the camera downgrade and weaker battery life and it just didn't make sense.
I ended up getting a 17 Pro Max which I love the battery life on but its weight has me considering a lighter phone again. By the time I'm looking for a new phone it's doubtful the Air will survive long enough.

Should the foldable really be "Ultra"-branded, it would be really weird for it to derive from the Air in terms of its specs.
In that case, it would be more logical to derive from the Pro, so as to not repeat the mistake of featuring an inferior camera configuration compared to a model priced significantly lower.
One half could still be Air-sized - the one without the cameras.
I also find it hard to believe that the foldable would not feature FaceID. Apple has been pushing FaceID hard. Also - whether true or not - Apple explained FaceID as being more secure than TouchID. I've said it here many times before and I'l say it again. FOR ME, the Air is the best iPhone Apple ever made. The main "feature" is the light weight and pocket-ability without compromising on the screen. For me, the battery life is fine, it's just as good as my 16 Pro was, and there wasn't a lot of grumbling about that phone when it was released. Sure, I'd welcome another camera but honestly, I can probably count on 3 fingers the number of times I wished I had that in the almost year that I've owned my Air. I still have my 16 Pro and I'm about to sell it. Every time I pick it up, it feels like a brick. I don't understand people who can carry around a Max, but we're all different
I think the main thing the Air suffers from is a lack of people really knowing about it, and if marketing doesn't change, I think the Air 2 will suffer the same fate. As someone who upgrades yearly, I have a feeling I'll be hanging onto my Air 2 for a while, assuming it's released.

I have the Air 1 and plan to buy the Air 2. My hope is for better more natural sounding speaker(s). I'll also appreciate getting back the macro capabilities experienced from previous use of the ultra wide camera. Use of 2nm technology is expected allowing greater efficiency with higher speed and lower power drain. My current iPhone Air usually lasts from when I awake to when I go to sleep, so the expected larger battery is not that much of a factor for me. The only time I've experienced any heating on my Air was during a long Tesla upgrade done using personal hotspot. For what it's worth, I bought the iPhone Air because I got tired of carrying around that heavy unwieldily brick of an iPhone Pro Max. Relatively speaking, the iPhone Air is light as a feather.

Does iOS 27 add a camera? Increase battery capacity? Make the speakers better? Bump the chip up to a 6 core? Larger vapor chamber? Decrease the price.
