On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we catch up on the latest iOS 19 and watchOS 12 rumors, upcoming devices, and more.

Detailed new renders from leaker Jon Prosser claim to provide the best look yet at the complete redesign rumored to arrive in iOS 19, showing more rounded elements, lighting effects, translucency, and an all-new pill-shaped tab bar with an elongated search bar. This visonOS-style redesign is also now rumored to come to the Apple Watch, and a sketchy report claims that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will tout exclusive AI features for Genmoji, Siri integration with activity information and sleep tracking, health monitoring, and more.

We look at the first iPhone 17 Pro cases, which emphasize just how large the new full-width camera bump is set to be, as well as exclusive camera features rumored for the device. We also discuss the report about the second-generation Vision Pro now being in mass production, the delay of Apple's smart home hub product to 2026, and Sir Jony Ive's work on a smartphone without a screen for OpenAI. The MacRumors Show also has its own YouTube channel, so make sure you're subscribed to keep up with new episodes and clips.

I would have been interested in hearing thoughts about Apple’s pricing options vis-a-vis the China tariffs etc

I’m not looking forward to circular home screen icons. I’ve gotten used to the new ones in control center but I still prefer the old style.

I’m fine with either circle or square (with the current rounded corners) but I think a half way in between “squircle” is awkward. Not just the shape itself but it’s especially odd-looking when you put shapes inside it. A square or a circle can fit almost any shape inside it and look good. But I don’t think anything looks good inside a squircle.

I'm looking forward to the Ultra 3! The Ultra and Ultra 2 were excellent, because of the battery life. Unfortunately, the battery life on my Ultra 2 has become awful even though I have 93% battery health.

I’ve never heard of an product from Apple called an ultra 3.

Does not sound like the battery life on your Ultra 2 is so great. Yet you plan on spending substantial cash on the Ultra 3 (if it ever exists)? Why reward a company with more of your business when it seems your current product is subpar and not lasted as it should?

Dan yearning for a mini iPhone, who would have thought!

To those wanting tariffs to be discussed: The discussion would have already been obsolete today.

Is the camera touch bar being removed? I'll stick with my 15 Pro Max if it's still there.

Good to see yall. You make me smile a lot and I enjoy watching you both together.

I usually agree with Hartley so this is weird.

I agree with Dan - the new icon shape looks bad. Really surprised Hartley likes it! haha

I don't agree with Hartley - what I've seen of the new pill designs at the bottom of the screen are... questionable. But I will reserve final judgment for when we have the OS in our hands. Though, if they are raised up a bit off the bottom of the screen (I can't remember if they are), then they will be easier to use than the current navbar design, which is too low on the screen.

And I do like how the search bars and other controls are moving to the bottom of the screen. iOS was designed for small phones that can be used one-handed. It's time to reimagine/redesign iOS for large phones where our thumbs can't comfortably reach the top of the screen. All gestures should be moved and/or re-thought so that they are accessible from the middle or bottom of the screen.

Until that happens, I'll keep using the 3rd gen iPhone SE. Even the 13 Mini is too tall even though it's a smaller device than the 3rd gen SE... this is because it's all screen unlike the SE. It's also too narrow of a device, which makes the keyboard keys too thin and awkward to type on. The form factor should serve the human, not the other way around. Treat the iPhone kinda like a wearable and make different sizes so that almost everyone can use their phone one-handed. And yeah if that takes redesigning iOS because you refuse to make a small device (even if it's because they don't sell), you better redesign iOS! People don't know what they want. Steve Jobs knew that.

I agree with Dan - the Jony Ive device sounds iffy, even if Open AI is doing it. They've proven they can design an amazing chatbot. Not a device.

Th original Control Center was on the bottom half of the screen for easy access. Paradoxically, it was moved to a top corner when the screen height increased.

That's fair. It's just my Ultra 1 was excellent. The Ultra 2 was for a really long time. I think it might just be a software issue. I'm going to try setting it up from scratch to see if it will fix it, but I don't want to deal with that hassle right now.
