I like this show because I enjoy Podcasts and I wanted an Apple News Show. I find myself kind of regretting listening to today's show, however, because I know I won't get the Vision Pro and if I do, it will be 2-3 years down the line to the point where everything talked about today would be irrelavent anyway. Today was an hour and 19 minute show geeking out over a product that I know I won't be able to use for a long time and if I wasn't listening while working out, it probably would have been a waste of time.

I hope this show doesn't become the "Apple Vision Pro" show. I get the excitement and it's one episode out of many, but hopefully there will be more exciting news in the world of Apple to come. I just know after listening today, I'm not as excited to go out and buying this product like I am maybe switching from Apple To Samsung a few months after I bought the 15 Pro Max (I won't actually switch back to Samsung because that would be a waste of money, but there is a part of me that is looking at Android and feeling mighty jealous).

Is Quinn wearing the cap to cover the forehead acne? He looks super blurred but I can still see spots on his face when this device sits.

Lord that thing must get hot and oily.

Hope you VP peeps have got some monies left for a dermatologist appointment.

I think the only thing I got from this episode was how it messes up hairstyles. I guess one wouldn't want to wear a hat with this thing on, would they? Barbers might have a field day with Vision Pro users.

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, Snazzy Labs' Quinn Nelson joins us to talk about the first week using Apple's long-awaited Vision Pro headset.

Now that they each have one, Quinn and Dan discuss whether the Vision Pro meets their expectations. A significant portion of our dialogue is dedicated to the technical aspects of the Vision Pro, including its display quality, brightness, and the challenges users might face with hand gestures and text selection. The conversation progresses to evaluate the device's text sharpness, its implications for productivity, and how comfortable it feels with the two headband options.

An interesting part of our discussion compares the Vision Pro with other VR headsets in the market. We highlight the distinct features of the Vision Pro that set it apart, especially its distortion correction capabilities and suitability for productivity tasks, contrasting it with the Meta Quest's gaming prowess. We also explore the potential for third-party headbands, future customization, and design possibilities, emphasizing Apple's unique position in the VR landscape and its differing approach from rivals.

We ponder the coexistence of Apple and Meta within the VR space, acknowledging the competition but also recognizing the distinctive strengths and target audiences each company caters to. This leads to a broader discussion about the challenges current VR headsets face, such as eye strain, and the optimistic outlook for technological improvements over time that could mitigate these issues.

A considerable part of our discussion tackles the technicalities and challenges surrounding Personas and face scanning with the Vision Pro, including the influence of factors like face shape, hair, and lighting conditions on the accuracy of these features. Quinn also shares insights on the integration of iPad apps with the Vision Pro, highlighting how this has transformed his workflow in certain instances and the potential it unlocks for productivity.

Despite the mix of frustrations and amazement the Vision Pro has brought, we come to a consensus acknowledging the exciting possibilities the device offers for the future of VR and productivity, considering whether or not we would recommend Apple's headset to others.

What I looking forward to the AVP burnout point. Right now people who spent $3500+ for a AVP are going to make themselves like it no matter if it's good or not. But lets say in 60-90 days after all the hype and chatter about it dies down, how much are they going to be using the AVP????

I want that interested in the AVP for a handful of reasons, but now out and people are trying to use it for a BIG SCREEN monitor strapped to their face it become interesting to me. I work in audio and eyesight isn't what it used to be so idea of seeing my DAW software on a virtual big screen is interesting, the one drawback (I assume for will change) is you can only see one screen of your computer. If I had a big screen or multiple screens in RW I would want multiple screens in my AVP. In fact that would really be a nice way to work to have multiple screens I have my main DAW screen front and center then secondary screens scattered around for when I need to reference them.

Back to my main point I think a lot of the people who bought AVP on launch day will start growing tired of them in about 60-90 days. Maybe by then Apple will have the rumoured non-Pro reasonably price Vision unit ready for release and get a whole new round of chatter going about AV technologies.

“Would you recommend Vision Pro”…of course yes

Vision Pro needs to be the spatial 3R experience regular screened devices can‘t do. Currently it looks like a lot of flat-screen apps floating in space.

If Apple released an actual piece of 💩 to wear on your face, you'd see all these influencers wearing it everywhere they go, praising it, claiming that it's the best thing since sliced bread. I read absolutely no honest reviews. Nobody talked about how stupid it looks, how pointless it is, or how a tv/computer/phone/tablet is better in every way.
let me guess. you can't afford to buy one

I think it still looks ridiculous… dont get me wrong, its amazing tech and im really excited to see what comes in the next few years as they optimize and refine it…

But i think the way the device looks at the moment… i think it looks atrocious. I just really dislike the scuba mask look… and there are even scuba masks that are high end that put this look to shame 😂

I think its one of their first gen products that looks a bit too round and bulbous… i remember when iPhone came out and i didn't really like the look of it until iPhone 4 came out… it was at iPhone 4 that it looked like a stylish, refined and serious device.

I really hope in 2 to 3 years they really reduce its weight, size and make the design a lot more serious.
I think it's a wonderful thing that Apple designed, produced and released this product. It will only get better with time. You can't evolve and get better without taking initial risks, making some mistakes, and learning from it. You can't get what you're asking for without starting like this. Ease up on the criticism. It's so easy to criticize from behind a keyboard without adding value to the discussion.

Just a thought that keeps coming back to me: With the passthrough limitations hampering the AR element, I wonder if the transparent display technology Dan reported on at CES might be the answer? Does that seem possible @Dan Barbera ? Perhaps it could be scaled down or is there a reason why that wouldn’t work? 🤔

Honestly only tuned in to see a preview of Snazzy Labs take on the Vision Pro. I’ve seen some noise that Steamlink and ALVR are currently being hacked onto it, which makes it a much more appealing prospect. To be honest though the discourse over the last week makes me much more tempted to just get a V2 of the Bigscreen Beyond.

Tech reviewers keep saying this will be amazing on an airplane. I'm sorry have you seen the size of the travel case? Its like bringing a whole extra luggage. Nobody is going to want to carry that much extra when they already have luggage to carry
The irony is the people splashing cash on this are likely taking business class flights and don’t need to block out the other plebs crushed in our economy class seats.

Maybe, just maybe if the accountant wasn't rushing this to market, it'd be different.

It's a brand new OS and platform which has to start somewhere; you can't stay in development hell forever because perfect is the enemy of good. Heck if you look at the prerelease photos of the first iPhone, it wasn't even going to have a YouTube app. I like the way it looks, but aesthetics are subjective.

The matter at hand is stealing trade secrets. So-called "poaching" not a crime. However, it is explicitly a crime for any employer to have any agreement or policy to avoid or discourage hiring from a competitor.

Perhaps you should change the name of this website to "Apple Vision Pro Rumors" Spending so much time and effort on one Apple device must be exhausting.
Vision Pro is the most exciting thing to come from Apple in quite a while. I'd argue more exciting than Apple Silicon. It's also one of the more exciting things to happen in tech this year. So, not surprising we get quite a lot of content about it.

I get both perspectives. It is annoying to me in a way too because I don’t have one, but I also understand that a great many of the people who care enough about Apple to read this website also care enough (and have the disposable income) to buy one.

I suppose I’ll be grateful for it when Apple Vision Pro 5S comes out and everyone has one because it’s $1000 and 100x better than this one.

Are we at the point now where gen z dont even know what a text article is anymore? Everything has to be video these days?

And soon it’ll just be GPT video summaries of videos.

In this case though I get it. They interview a guest in most episodes. Kind of hard to turn that into an article. Maybe Apple Podcasts transcriptions can scratch that particular itch.

I could not afford one now, but I read tech news as entertainment, not to inform purchases specifically.
