If an Apple product receives mixed reviews, it is termed a controversy.

Controversy is something like the SSD overuse that plagued Mac M1 devices during Big Sur days.
I am unfamiliar with SSD overuse in M1

Acclaimed Apple content creator Rene Ritchie joins us on The MacRumors Show podcast this week to reflect on the all-new Mac Studio and Studio Display now that users have had a chance to spend some time with the machines.

The eighth episode of The MacRumors Show takes a look at the Mac Studio and Studio Display's real-world performance, ports, and pricing, as we try to get to the bottom of exactly who these devices are meant for. We also take a closer look at the mixed to negative reaction to the Studio Display and discuss whether it is justified, and cast an eye toward what could be next for Apple silicon Macs and Apple external displays.

We were glad to be joined by Rene Ritchie, the prolific YouTuber, podcaster, blogger, writer, and all-round Apple content creator. Rene is the former executive editor of iMore, a founding member of video streaming service Nebula, and has been a prominent voice in the Apple space for over a decade. Business Insider has said that Rene is one of the top 100 most influential tech people on Twitter, one of the top 25 Gadget Gurus, and one of the 15 most important Apple analysts and writers.

I've been enjoying the podcast; keep it going.
I will, however, skip this week's episode as I find my intellect erodes proportionally to exposure to Rene Ritchie and/or iJustine.
Looking forward to next week's episode.

As a relatively regular MacBreak Weekly listener I can assure you Rene will never say anything bad about Apple. He always has some explanation for any missteps or embarrassments. He even covered for Apple during the 2016 MacBook Pro keyboard debacle. He is anything but impartial.
If you can still bear to ”tune in“ to that podcast, then Rene is a good offset to the snarky bias against apple from Andy, who simply can’t afford to play in the Apple ecosystem, and Leo, who is still miffed about being exiled by Apple.

I find Rene’s positive attitude refreshing, what I don’t find palatable anymore is that MacBreak Weekly is not worth my time due to the constant interruption by the participants, resulting in cross talk where nothing can be recognized. At least twenty percent of the show is unintelligible and annoying. You’d think that with all of that experience and professional gear they’d learn how to both mix and behave so the audience could make out what they have to say. It’s become too annoying to bother anymore.

Nope.

Wow, someone who actually knows what's up. You are correct, he's one of the best. The characterizations I'm seeing here are people repeating what they heard other people say, because if they actually paid attention to the information he shares, it's always technically correct. Don't like his delivery? Listen to the podcast, don't watch the Youtube video. That's what I do.
I am actually a pretty big RR fan, I even sub’d to Nebula through his show. However, he definitely gives Apple a lot of wiggle room. That being said, to me, it’s part of the appeal. He’s authentically himself and even though I may disagree with some of what he says, the authenticity matters more. To me.

Indeed. He's very careful with his words when it comes to anything he disagrees with Apple.
It's usually prefaced with something like, "Apple is all about compromises..."

pfft -- please

Rene is so far in the bag for Apple he can't even see daylight out the top

I’d rather read a review from Rene vs watching one of his videos. And definitely better than anything we’d see from a YouTuber. He knows his stuff. But he’s lived and breathed apple since iPhone debut and he was given the blog to run at tipb.

Definitely an apple bias but it’s earned.

I don’t trust anyone that has such a close relationship with Apple that they get review units and high level employees on interviews.

The time I spent working for Apple I learned one important thing. They control the message and only allow people close that agree to allow them to control the message. No matter what anyone thinks here I think they likely have that guy on an invisible leach as well as that iJustine girl. After reading and writing documents in the “Apple speak” during my time, I can tell you these folks don’t seem free to speak their minds and they both show patterns of pre written Apple corporate presentation speech patterns. The best part is they probably signed something saying they can’t talk about just how involved Apple is in their operation. Rene just gives me the impression that he is so eager to be in his Apple relationship that he will bend over any time they ask.

Someone like Flossy wants to talk about Apple products, I’ll listen. Not these people. It’s not that I think they are wrong on things for the most part or are spreading lies…..I just like to counter my own Apple fanboy tendencies with some non-Apple influenced opinions to keep my brain open. If I want Apple influenced opinions I’ll just watch the product videos and stories on Apple’s site.

I do think if Rene told Apple to go sit on a cactus and just went it alone he might be better off. I can’t tell from watching his videos what is blind Apple fanboyism and what is Apple “suggesting” he says. But who am I to judge….I might do the same thing if presented the opportunity lol

What was missing here was comparison of Mac Studio Max with 27" iMac. For current (Intel) 27" iMac users wanting more power, that is a crucial question.

I think for the price people, like me were expecting Mini LED. Common, it costs the same as an iMac 5K … just without the computer. The speakers as are better, but I think it’s common sense to think it is not as valued as full computer. Finally, what is the stand thing … 400 just to move the thing up and down …? I understand Apple tax … I’m fine with it … but …

The eventual frustration might be down to expectation. People like me were expecting Apple to push the envelope and bring Mini LED … to go along the Studio and the new MacBook Pros. Promotion would be nice … but Mini LED would be fine already.

My guess is that Apple did not want to bring one without the other … can’t TB4 deal with Promotion?

Mind you, I’m waiting for and update for the PRO XDR 31” with Mini LED at least so I’m not really a buyer.

I believe that this is a product for people that bought the LG 5K … not much else. How many are they anyway … the ones that were … they moved already to something better.

First time I watched one of these, I’m not big on podcasts or videos. I do wish they would give more negatives but overall loved all the speakers. Would have loved to hear more from the young guy that looks like he is 13. I loved the Brit, he was on point. I avoid all things LG like the plague so agree with those sentiments. Am on the fence on upgrading my 2018 mini so the British guy’s advice to wait makes total sense. I kind of wish they would talk a little more about their personal setups (mic, camera, etc). All their video was super high quality. I’m struggling with video for zoom calls myself.

Is it only me but watching the young guy in glasses speaking is not right (sorry don't know his name)? The audio does not match to video and also his voice is way too deep, too much bass on the mixer?

My BS detector goes off too. But then again it does for most people reviewing Apple tech, even the ones that aren’t on an invisible leash. Flossy is a solid reviewer, I’ve watched his content for a long time - also seems like an authentic dude.

I also enjoy The Talk Show even though “the fear of the ax” seems present in JG’s analysis of the products too.

TBH anytime the “Apple Silicon is the end all be all” narrative starts, I feel like I am in Shilltown to an extent. I guess my point is that I know what I’m getting with RR. And you’re fine to just read the press release but Rene does do some deeper dive nerd stuff that I appreciate, even if I don’t agree.
