Why does Apple hate the mini so much? Why are they SO loathe to update it? We’re on the 7th gen Mini, and what; 12+ gen standard iPad? I LOVE my mini for reading, so much! I’m almost certainly ready to buy an 8, irrespective how big an upgrade it is / isn’t. My 5 is showing its age. 🥺

Personally, and I know it’s contentious, but to each their own; I HATE Face ID. Absolutely hate it. Every time I use my mini 6, I wish my iPhone & other iPads had touchID still.
They only do this to low sellers. Revenue drives decision making when you’re a for profit company.

My primary purpose for the iPad Mini 7 is as an e-reader. Don't see an argument that it is too powerful for this (more distracting than a kindle, etc...) I just turn the notifications off; don't get distracted. Don't see this argument.
I’ll never understand the “too powerful” perspective. What; some people LIKE waiting for their tech to do stuff? They LIKE looking at spinning wheels, tapping their fingers, and just waiting for stuff to happen? Must be nice to have so much time on your hands… as for the rest of what you said; “distractions” are easy; delete apps, shut off notifications. People are…. 🙄

iPad has 2 use cases:

1. Content consumption - in which case, just get a cheap one that's a screen for watching videos, web browsing and simple games, which you can also do on your laptop.

2. Drawing stuff as an artist - only case where buying the Pro makes sense. My wife does this.

For other types of work, it's terrible compared to a Mac.... especially now you can get a Macbook Neo for less than many iPad combos.

Since it was released in 2011, I've always thought it was a really limited device. I had one for about a year and sold it because it never got used.
No. It depends what you need to do. Working with lots of different files, attachments, etc? Yes; the iPad will be a nightmare. But basic word processing, BASIC spreadsheets; anything cloud-based? It’s amazing. Note taking? Emails? Texting? Ipad is a dream. It just depends on what you need & want to do.

A third use case is reviewing documents, marking them up, and general note-taking. Basically, research and teaching activities.

The Pro makes sense whenever you prefer OLED and can spare the money. For me the killer feature is high text contrast and true blacks when using it in dark environments.
There’s a lot more use cases than that, but yes! Is it just me, or does this happen to anyone else; when I’m working on a long document, I’ll export it to PDF and open it up on my iPad. I pretty much ALWAYS catch things while reviewing on my iPad that I did not catch from my PC. Am I nuts? 😂 I love & use the HELL out of my iPads; have ever since I got the very first one when it came out!!!

my use case for iPad mini is smallest doc review and edit and communication device that is between phone and laptop for travel AND able to have proper external display support.
You hook your mini up to an external display? What size monitor? How does it perform? What mouse & keyboard do you use? I got a tiny keyboard + trackpad case for my mini but never use it. Keyboard is just too cramped & it tips over too easily. I just use my mini for reading and grab my 13” when I need to type.

I kinda feel like this is a dead category because Apple couldn’t decided if it was a tablet which fit between a phone and a laptop or a laptop replacement.
What is a dead category? Tablets in general, or Mini-sized tablets? I could not possibly disagree more, and so does the market. 🙂

All I want is an iPad mini with Face ID so it unlocks the same as every other "i" device I use without being annoyed by the power button fingerprint thing. Other than that the iPad is what it is a reading watching listening device. Any real work happens on real computers with real operating systems. Other than a few journalists who pride themselves on being able to do everything on iTablets, everything for them being writing articles and reading web pages big whoop. Real users who need to do real things need real computers, yes, the trucks. Trucks for all.
I respectfully disagree. as I commented previously; I personally absolutely _hate_ Face ID. I find it way more cumbersome, slower, less reliable, and just less convenient in every possible way compared to touch ID ever was.

But to each his own.
🙂

As for tablets, it depends on exactly what you need to do, but I would imagine that most journalists should absolutely love them. You can instantly go from drawing or writing to typing on a real (or on-screen) keyboard, and using a mouse and THEN you can further start recording 4K video, top quality audio, etc; all at the tap of a button.
I absolutely love & use the hell out of my iPads! For certain jobs, they are absolutely an amazing tool.

I mean that oled screens of iphones newer that 11pro are hurting my eyes and causing headaches after few minutes of using them
Interesting. Can you tell me more about the phenomenon? Honest question. Is there something different in modern screens vs. sometthing like a CRT that bothers you more / less? Did not know....

it’s almost exclusively oled with pwm dimming that apple is using in all phones since iphone 12.
no issue with crt, tn, ips, va, pdp.

some oleds with some pwm settings and some temporal dithering are tolerable, but not apple’s.

Fascinating. Again; I'm sorry to hear of the problem. Thanks for the explanation + link.
