This thing is just a joy to use and type on. I have a feeling I will use my macbooks less now. My only concern is the outside material is the same material that was used on the Smart Keyboard folio and that thing gets wrinkles and looks really rough very easily. I absolutely love the magic keyboard and highly recommend it.

Check out the two threads on skins for the AMK in this subform; you can protect it so that it doesn't get all beat up and wrinkled like the SKF did.
I still use my MBP quite a bit though, some things just still are a pain in iOS; file management and long writing sessions come to mind.

I like the magic keyboard, but there are plenty of nice keyboards that don’t cost 350 dollars. This thing isn’t worth 350 dollars unless you have the disposable income to make it worth your time.

£350 but to me i use it everyday and will hopefully for many years so for me it is totally worth the price

I would argue that holds true for non-business use of the iPad Pro in general. As with all things Apple, its not about cost it is about perceived value. Chances are that if you can afford the pro, then the keyboard (while ridiculously priced) is worth it to you.

It is very much a subjective evaluation. For myself, for my 12.9 Pro I already have an excellent stand, Bluetooth keyboard, and Magic Trackpad 2 for home use. Four on the go, I have a Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard case. I often switch out a Logitech mouse in lieu of the trackpad. And for trackpad use, I prefer a larger trackpad to the side of the keyboard, not centered below it. For my purposes, this all works great for me and the $350 price of the MK really puts me off.

Absolutely love it. At first I missed the function keys from my logitech and I wanted a larger trackpad, but now its almost perfect. My only compliant is the battery drain. Im getting about 1-2 hours less usage time. My iPad Pro is my daily driver so if the magic keyboard makes it more like a laptop replacement and allows me to be more productive then I feel its worth the price.

You are correct, but it feels like a different matter paying a few hundred dollars more for a cutting edge processor, display, storage and wireless technology vs a backlit keyboard with hinges and a magnet.

Customers are not stupid ... we can tell when someone is sticking it to us just because they can.

I have smart keyboard coming to the house soon. Going to use the SK with logitech anywhere 2s and see how it compares to MK.

Well (and I'll include myself in this group) some are stupid when it comes to Apple and their pricing. $700 Mac Pro wheels and $1,000 display stands are too rich for my blood, but someone out there is buying them. My personal stupid threshold is set at $350 for a keyboard case which I have bought and love.

Same situation as you, however... I use the Magic Mouse 2 instead of the Magic Trackpad 2. I have a stand/dock and keyboard that I use with my iPP for some time now, I only bought the Magic Mouse 2 recently. And I'm perfectly fine with the setup I have now. I'm fully aware of how nice the MK is, but I don't think it's worth it for me simply replace the setup I currently have.

And my stand/dock is much more versatile to the MK. It's really not much an advantage for me to go with a MK, but I do have the option to use the Magic Trackpad 2 that I use with my iMac, but the disconnecting to use it with the iPP seemed a little too much... decided it was just better to buy a mouse strictly for the iPP.

The Logitech K380 keyboard and MX Master 3 work well for me as they are switchable between my docked laptop and iPad Pro with a single button touch - so they're dual-use devices. The MK is attractive but beyond my toy price limits at the moment.

Yeah, I thought about going with a different mouse. But I've read and seen a video claiming how Apple is purposely creating bugginess with 3rd party mouses, I decided to just buy the Magic Mouse 2. You probably don't have that problem or perhaps Apple has fixed the issue, I just didn't want to risk it.

And I've had a Magic Mouse 2 before... I'm accustomed to it.

Now that I've had an MK for 24 hours for my 12.9, I feel it's worth it. My thinking is if the SKF is $199, then $150 more for this nice keyboard, the trackpad, the extra port, the floating mechanism, the caps lock light, and the backlight is worth it.

Could not have said it better myself. 😀

$300 (I have the 11”) is a lot of money for me...but it is worth the cost for how it has expanded my iPad usage. I love the ability to just take my iPad a lot of places now. (Albeit we aren’t going very many places at the current time.) I leave my MacBook Pro at the office more than I used to. I think the MK is probably worth about $100 less than its price...but we all know that when we use Apple, we pay the Apple Tax.

This thing may not be worth $350 to you, but it is worth $350 to many of us. If it wasn’t worth $350, it would be selling for $350.

you may not understand the concept, but price gouging loyal customers for something as basic as a decent typing experience isn’t a great long term approach.

I can afford a lot of things, but I also know when I’m being ripped off.

If it were $350 Canadian taxes included, I would’ve considered it, but I didn’t want to spend so much to turn my iPad into a laptop again. Plus the material put me off.

I decided to keep my iPad conceptually different than my MacBook Pro so I got a nice metal dock, K380 keyboard, and a Magic Trackpad 2.

Like I said in another post, you CAN'T just think of the MK as merely a keyboard and trackpad. If Apple charges $179 for a Smart Keyboard Folio and $129 for a Trackpad 2, then the MK is cheaper than these two items combined.

Sure, you can buy a Civic and throw on big wheels and a big turbo and says it's faster than M3, but you don't get the same experience. Those who are buying the MK understand that the sum of all the parts justifies the cost. I can purchase individual parts like an iPad stand, a standalone Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse/Trackpad, but it won't come in a package like the MK.

So, we get why YOU didn't purchase the MK because of price (and maybe materials used) alone, but for the rest of us, let us drive our M3's while you pass us in your Civic's~

The same thing could be said about just about any other purchase anyone makes.

There are, right this second, millions of people spending money on things that I wouldn’t buy. Things that I could easily find an almost unlimited number of “better things to spend the money on”.

Perhaps I could take the time to tell them all that they should be buying something else that they don’t actually want, but I do. However, I think I’ll stuck to just understanding that they probably have different tastes, personal circumstances, disposable income etc to me and therefore it’s probably best for them to actually just buy the thing that they decided upon with those factors taken into account.

This seems to imply those who buy the MK are so loyal to Apple that we're blind to its price and not wise enough to evaluate a product based on its merits to make an independent and thoughtful decision. For every purchase--Apple or otherwise--I take time to evaluate all aspects of the product, whether it's a need or want, and current budget, be it a Windows machine, a coffeemaker, or a car. I do a ton of research even for small purchases like a $30 portable bathroom heater. I want the most value for the money for all purchases. Considering the ease, joy and functionality the MK has brought to my life and iPad Pro use, it's been worth it, and worth is a subjective and personal criteria as is "price gouging".
