Another one here who won’t be getting the MK. I bought the 2019 MBP last summer and thats my productivity workhorse and the IPP which I got a few days ago still cannot match a proper laptop or desktop for basic productivity like working with MS Office docs etc. Even something simple like MS outlook for iPad OS is inferior to the Mac version. I can’t access my online archive in the iPad OS version for example whereas it’s no issue on the Mac version. The Adobe DC Pro is superior on the Mac and so on. The iPad is still not there imho. I have it as a content device like reading my e-paper subs etc. I know I could have just got the iPad Air for that, but I intend keeping this for a few years so figured I may as well get the IPP. I travel a lot on business and I will still bring the MBP but I will bring the IPP for media consumption and watching movies on planes etc.

No need for extra weight for me with the MK.

The same thing could be said about just about any other purchase anyone makes.

There are, right this second, millions of people spending money on things that I wouldn’t buy. Things that I could easily find an almost unlimited number of “better things to spend the money on”.

Perhaps I could take the time to tell them all that they should be buying something else that they don’t actually want, but I do. However, I think I’ll stuck to just understanding that they probably have different tastes, personal circumstances, disposable income etc to me and therefore it’s probably best for them to actually just buy the thing that they decided upon with those factors taken into account.
How enlightened of you. Would you feel the same way if the keyboard cost 1000? Just curious. I'm sure there's a CEO out there that would find the purchase to still be worth his time.

I am going to pick up the MK tomorrow and find out how well it works. It could replace my MBP for watching Netflix and listening to music while I use my school computers for stuff.

I’m looking forward at getting one. I like the idea of taking the iPad off and using as a proper tablet. My biggest problem with Logitech folio is that it is tough to take on and off and it’s really not enjoyable to hold folded up and holding case and tablet in tablet mode.

I still can't bring myself to purchase the 12.9 iPad for $900 + tax and buy the $330 + tax MKB. With tax, its around the same price as a base 2020 MBP. I'm going to see what the future holds for the iPad lineup, though.

I’ve recently purchased the 12.9” with LTE and the Magic Keyboard - it’s a whole different experience compared to the 11” iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard. The Magic Keyboard single-handedly changed the utility of the bigger brother.

I purchased the Magic Keyboard in May and have loved using it since. In fact I am using the iPad more and the MacBook less. The true test will be when int is time to go back to work in a few weeks. I plan to leave the MacBook at home instead of taking both with me. BTW, I am using the 11" iPad Pro (2018) with LTE and 512GB and pencil. Seriously considering the 12.9 for my next iPad, but that will probably be 2021 or whatever version comes next after the 2020. The keyboard has changed my usage of the iPad that much. It's like having a laptop, but at the same time the versatility of an iPad at a moments notice. using it on the 11 inch almost 2 months now and it's changed my mind on the 12.9" which I always thought to be too big.

My magic keyboard for the 12.9" is arriving tomorrow from Best Buy. I hope mine arrives without any cosmetic flaws. Delivery from Apple is still over 2 weeks out.

Totally agree. This and native cursor support has allowed me to finally replace my MBP with the iPad which, for me, is a more flexible device with some nice technical improvements over the laptop.

Its quickly becoming one of my favourite Apple accessories in recent memory.

I feel exactly the same way. I'm one month in now with the MK (and 2 months with the IPP 12.9 refurb), and it's just so easy now. I get up in the morning and can't wait to start using it; it's that much of a pleasure. I'm a fan of a few iOS games so being able to have a work machine on which I can also play my fave games is a big plus. As I wrote in another post, I tried an MBA a couple days ago for a few hours, and for my needs, it would be redundant and macOS doesn't have the games I like best.

I use my 11” w/ LTE for work all the time now since the magic keyboard and trackpad combo make a fantastic mobile alternative...especially if you can get your work done using Remote Desktop, which I do, and connect to use my desktop remotely.

I think apple should really market this as “its the biggest thing to happen to iPad, since the iPad”. Not exaggerating.

Reading about all of the thermal issues in other forums here with the MacBooks makes me appreciate how cool the MK stays in my lap.

I picked up the Magic Keyboard for my 11 inch Pro today. I love the feel of the keys - I’m just trying to get used to the size of the keyboard as it’s obviously smaller than most. My work laptop has a notably larger keyboard so I’m hoping I’ll be able to go between these devices without my muscle memory getting too confused!

I want to get an ARM MacBook when they release later in the year so I’m hoping I’ll just be able to get by with the IPP & Magic Keyboard until then. As far as battery drain is concerned, I haven’t noticed any excessive drain at all - with that said, I have turned off the backlighting. I’ll monitor it as the days and weeks go on though.

I like the magic keyboard, but there are plenty of nice keyboards that don’t cost 350 dollars. This thing isn’t worth 350 dollars unless you have the disposable income to make it worth your time.
Is it overpriced? Sure. But not by a lot.

An Apple trackpad is $149, Apple Keyboard $99. (One could argue that those themselves are overpriced, but thats a different topic). One overlooked feature is that the Magic keyboard has an additional USB C port for charging, freeing up your iPad Pro’s USB C port for peripherals. If you were to purchase some type of dongle to free up another USB C port, it would likely cost you $30-50. A case for your iPad Pro another $20-50.

So to have all of that in one nice package, that you don’t have to charge individually like you would with a Magic Trackpad and keyboard, you’re paying an extra $50ish which isn’t terrible IMO.

If you already have all of those items, then yes its a pricey add-on.

IMO the Magic Keyboard is essential for the 12.9. I own a small business and I use it everyday for work. I highly recommend it.

I surely agree. My price point comparison was that the Smart Keyboard Folio was $200, so $150 more for a nicer keyboard, trackpad and the excellent floating magnet piece was well worth. It's proved its worth over and over daily.

I agree that it’s overpriced, but not so overpriced that I could not justify purchasing it. I love it and it really elevates the iPad Pro.

It has pretty much made my MBP unnecessary, and I will likely pass the MBP along to my kids. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of a place to put the pencil, which I had on the case I used before. I have a separate small zippered holder for the pencil, but I find myself forgetting it.

I guess it's all relative because you have an iPhone Xs Max ($1,100) which is more than the base price of a MacBook Air ($1,000). Personally, I couldn't justify that and got an Xr and saved $350, which, coincidentally, was how much I paid for my Magic Keyboard.

Actually, I lied. I paid much less for my Xr new. But, you get my drift haha.

I think the point of this particular post was that those who are bought into the iPad system find the MK completely changing their experiences for the better. For me, I have found new life in how I use my iPad Pro.

The future for Apple, for me, is in their iPad lineup, not their iPhone. I've been a bit bored by the iPhone...
