Reduce the amount of time I spend wondering where my wallet and keys are when needed and misplaced. One in my checked in airplane luggage too, just in case.

Honestly it is not cheap at all, it only makes sense to track something very important.

The thing it tracking might not be of particular value however it could be solution to a frustration. Its cheap for something that makes your life easy.

For example. Me aka big brain bought a black Samsonite suit case and after flying across the country then stood at the wrong luggage conveyor (its 3am btw) picking up black Samsonite suit cases that weren't mine just to have people freak out on me for borderline domestic terrorism. In that scenario an AirTag would would have been a god send. Or a bright handkerchief tide around the handle.

I carry a backpack a lot although I haven't found it particularly help. I'm careful I don't lose things. I might stick it in my laptop bag but its a MacBook so its tracking its location too.

I don't understand the checked luggage use - doesn't the tag start to ping audibly when out of range?

Luggage handle wraps are very handy for knowing which bag is yours as it circles the luggage carousel...
