I was just strolling around the Internet when I ran across something about Sun Solaris 10. Not knowing much about it, I went to Sun's Solaris 10 website and hit up the FAQ and found this:

solaris.jpg

"The most advanced operating system on the planet". Knowing I've heard Jobs say this multiple times about Mac OS X, I decided to see which OS Google thought was the most advanced on the planet. Mac OS X Tiger.

But out of curiosity, has anyone used Solaris 10 or any other interesting OSes?

"The most advanced operating system on the planet" is just a marketing term. That is usually a matter of opinion, and depends on what you do.

Mac OS X just comes up when you type that in because Steve says it so often.

I think just about every company that makes operating systems says that theirs is the most advanced, since how would it sound if you were marketing your system as the second most advanced operating system?

Solaris 10 does have some interesting features, one of which (ZFS) is coming to Leopard. You don't hear about Solaris much but they are still innovating.

Solaris has some really kickass features if you are running a serious corporate server. In the home though I wouldn't bother.
