I once had a $30 shot of tequila. I also ate out at a fondu restaurant once and spent $120 for me and my girlfriend. Not as impressive as a lot of people on here... guess I haven't really lived? ;)

Well, this one hasn't been consumed yet, but we're giving it some serious thought...

I was at a friend's house the other day, and he showed me a bottle of wine that was ...ahem... "acquired" in a roommate dispute. The roommate really screwed over his ex-roommates, so, really, the ex-roommate still got the better end of the bargain.

Anyway, it had the original price tag on it from whenever it was sold: $95.

It's a rather old bottle, and that got me thinking. If it was $95 when sold, what is is worth today? So, I looked it up on my iPhone.

It's a bottle of 1986 Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

$1500 today, but make allowance for improper storage... Nobody knows how long it was sitting around the house or whether it was properly stored prior to acquisition by the ex-roommate. If it was me, I'd feel funny about selling it, but I suppose the buyer of such a bottle would understand the risk and discount accordingly. But I'm thinking drink it or keep it as a souvenir. (1986 is my friend's birth year.) It's supposed to peak in 10 years or so.

re: the car thing. I had a 1976 Lancia Beta Scorpion (basically, a fat Fiat X1/9 with a swoopy Pinifarina-designed body and a pathetic Fiat 1800 engine). Pietro, my mechanic, seemingly knew only two words in English: 'ed gasket!

LOL. Drinks in the bar at The Royal Opera House. Anyone who's been will sympathise :D

I hope that was a '55!

What year was it?

We were (hindsight: bad bad idea now) investing in wine, specifically magnums of Grange. Some years ago we had a whole set of 12 years or something BUT we were missing one year ('93) and the whole series was worth much more than the parts. So this guy had it for that price and we bought it on the persistence of my brother.

One of few bad investment stories.

a couple of my friends and I spent a combined $98.65 on Mcdonalds.. It included 200 mcnuggets, drinks, cheeseburgers, deserts and basically everything on the menu. It was about 5 of us ..

The Melting Pot by any chance? That was going to be my answer too lol. I spent $120.00 on the four-course "Big Night Out." We go every Christmas for a nice dinner and to exchange gifts. :p

Unless you are into wine tasting it may be a waste for you to drink it...some would really be 'into' drinking this one. Personally, you might have more fun with the stuff you could buy with the profits. I say sell it.

I bought a $150 steak once when I visited San Francisco. The steak was pretty good, but I could have bought 15 $10 steaks at the market and grilled them at home for the same quality. I suppose I paid more for the "experience."

Maybe $80 for a dinner for two. Usually when my girlfriend and I go out to eat the tab ends up at around $25-30. Going out to eat is really cheap when you don't eat meat.

Same here. We have gone on a few special nights out and the most my bill totaled $90.

And all the disgusting germs and greases from thousand upon thousands of unknown grubby fingers serve as the seasoning, right?

:D

Perhaps, but there's trace amounts of cocaine on a large percentage of bills in circulation.

There's also trace amounts of faeces. Nom nom nom!

Do hookers count?

No, not combustibles. Consumables! Keep up with the conversation please.

About $150 for a bottle of wine for my father. A Bordeaux from 2006, has to be storet at least 10-15 years before it can be drunk. That will be a good day. :)
