Well...mysterious to me, in any case...

Can anyone tell me *where* exactly downloaded files are located? I go to the Downloads Folder to find them, but it doesn't let me manage the files there; I'm guessing there's some default place the files are placed, and that the Downloads Folder simply helps in the short term...

Any insights would be much appreciated!

it depends on what app youre downloading from.
safari has its default set to downloading files to the downloads folder in your home folder.

what app are you using when experiencing this?

i think that firefox defaults to the desktop

if you are using save as, the default folder is the last folder you saved to

if it is something like itunes the default folder is the iTunes folder under music

Safari and most other apps download to ~/Downloads. You can do whatever you want from the files from there. You can also change the download folder in apps like transmission, firefox and safari.

Safari uses the 'Downloads' folder

Macintosh HD > Users > yourself > Downloads

Aha!

OK...I see where the issue is...I am trying to do file management from within the Documents folder (for example, I click on the "Today" button, to see just today's downloads, and it doesn't let me create a folder at that point...which is what I was wanting to do...)
The files come via various apps...in this case, I was using Fetch...

Thanks, folks!
