I was curious about the notification I was receiving on my new iPhone SE.
It says, "To reduce battery ageing, iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it."
Initially that just made no sense to me. How would it know when I needed to use it? It would need to know in advance too, in order to complete charging to 100%. So this morning I checked my battery before disconnecting from the charger and it was 100% as usual.
So, I wondered how does this work? After a little searching i found this; About Optimised Battery Charging on your iPhone – Apple Support
"Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that only Optimised Battery Charging activates when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time. The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged."
To achieve this there are a couple of settings that need to be turned on.
The upshot of all this is that Apple obviously consider it is not good for battery life to leave your iPhone on charge once it has reached 100%.
