I got the old 13" las september and have been grounded ever since i got it. Is it worth it for me to sell it on amazon for 900 and pay the difference ($200 I get Student Discount) for the new 13 inch it looks like it is over twice as fast.

I just replaced mine (13" 2.4 2010 to 13" i5 2011).
Honestly I did it just because getting AppleCare its 250$ so selling and getting a new one makes more sense.

I think Photoshop load faster, Didn't saw yet any other difference.
It's wormer and I think the new fan don't have "levels" like the 2010, in the 2011 it's super quite or super noisy, nothing in the middle.

The Webcam is slightly better, and there are no accessories yet with Thunderbolt.

I think, If you have a limited budget for upgrade, maybe it is best to get SSD drive. but if you don't care to spend 200$, its nice to get a new/current model. I'm happy with my upgrade. But overthink/cry about that? hell no. it's the same machine +/-.

Suddenly, I have a reason to buy every new MBP.

Grounded...Dude honestly if your grounded your probly 13 and don't need the best of the best... what do you even use your laptop for..

Wait until you can get the free Touch to sell for $200 and you're good to go.

Yup. That's exactly what I did when I qualified for student discount. Got the student discount, sold the free iPod and pretty much upgraded for free.

As for whether or not the OP should upgrade well... I played with the new MBP's in the Apple store this weekend. Really - there is nothing to write home about in terms of performance that you can perceive in daily use. I'm sure games or certain intense apps make a difference though. Personally, I'd wait for the 2012 MBP which is likely to be even faster, with a new slim design.

The machines actually felt slower than my 2.53 C2D - because I spent a few bucks on an SSD. Really - if you want the machine to feel snappier, get an SSD and some RAM in there.

LOL I did not quite get this statement either.

But, contributing, I love the macbook. Screen could be better but still a monster. Replaced my xps.

Do you really think you'll be able to sell your 13" for $900? Micro Center has brand-new 2.4GHz C2D 2010 MBPs selling for $900.

And WTF did you do to get yourself grounded for so long?

haha I read that completely different from you all. I took it as grounded as in unpretentious and satisfied with the purchase.

LOL I was thinking the same thing, What the heck are you doing to be grounded so severely for so long? Dang, kiddo! My oldest is 16 and has had a Touch since Christmas... She turned 16 a week ago and we got her an inexpensve Acer laptop- no WAY I am spending the $$$ for a MBP for a kid. Heck I JUST got my first one! LOL

You don't need to insult anyone. At my high school, whenever someone sees my iMac, iPad, or iPhone, they get jealous. It's a status thing when your a teen. The more Apple products you own, the cooler you are.

That could quite possibly be the dumbest thing I have heard in a LONG time. Unless you're working and paying for it yourself, save your parents the hard earned money. My parents are plenty well off and never once bought me "best of the best". If I wanted something as lavish as an Apple Computer or a freakin car, I was payin for it myself. Honestly taught be the value of a buck

Hell, I even payed my own way through a 4 year education at UT Austin.

Do not waste your money.

Rarely do others really NEED the modest speed increase. You have a good one now, enjoy and watch what happens to light peak. Apple/Intel crippled it by using old school copper wire instead of fiber optics that it what it was designed for. You're essentially paying for something of no value for a year minimum.

Lmao. My thoughts exactly...latest and greatest...but it Thunderbolt can only be great if it has accessories :p

I honestly did not say i was grounded for this reason but here is why i had bad grades for a long time.
I use my computer for Gaming, Photoshop (Graphic Design 4-6 Class) and My Huge Itunes (all legal and paid for which makes me more proud of it.;)
