The New 2013 SimCity [Merged]

a little bit off topic
will a european prepaid card ( electronic use only - VISA ) work with origin ?

i don't have a credit card .

I bit the bullet and bought the game. I installed Windows 7 into BootCamp onto my 2012 MBP today and then got the game. The only issue I had was registering with Origin. The website was giving me fits but once I worked that out everything else went fine.

I've played maybe 2 hours of it so far and it's not too bad. I do have agree with many others that the small size of the city maps is disappointing.

I think theres a good chance that there will be bigger maps in the future. Im looking at simcity a bit like sims 3, itll be the expansion packs and dlc that really make the game over the next few years.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is DLC?

I've played several hours more and have three cities in a region, in sandbox mode, and so far I quite enjoy it. I've not had any server issues of any kind though I do wish there was an offline mode available.

One thing I noticed, and maybe it's just me, but the gifts like a stadium seem disproportionally large compared to the regular buildings and especially so considering the small map sizes available to us. They take up an awful lot of space in a small city. It's almost not worth plopping them down.

DLC stands for downloadable content ... like more maps for multiplayer in call of duty ... oh and it's not free . otherwise it would be called an update.
i 've they do that with simcity ( larger cities - dlc ) they will lose more customers

now ... what is sandbox mode ?

Sandbox mode is kind of like an offline mode where you do not interact regionally with other [real world] users over the Internet. Although you still have to sign in and connect to the EA servers.

Here is my review of some aspects of the game after playing it off and on over the last several weeks...

The good...
I started out in a 3 city locked region. While I didn't like the small city sizes at first, I soon realized after starting my second city in that region that when combined there is enough room in a region to build different things and simply trade between cities for resources that are lacking. I can gift money and extra police cars, fire trucks, etc. Having different cities pull together to make a great works (feels like wonders in the Civilization series) and specializing in different research paths at the university is a nice feature. I am still waiting for one of my friends to buy this game so we can work together for things like this.

The bad...
Experimenting I went ahead and made a new city in an open region with many cities and other players I do not know. This is where things went south. In the same day I started this city a player in an adjacent city (according to the news ticker) kept sending me murderers and arsonists lighting my city ablaze with fires and crime. It wasn't just a few times, it was constant. I upgraded both my fire station and police station until I had very little income and still could not keep up with the situation. My jails would max out shortly after upgrading their capacity.
If this is typical multiplay then I think the designers made a big mistake. Why would I help a neighbor build a great works if they wish to bring my city to it's knees with crime and fires? Would seem nice with a group of friends but until then I don't think I want to play with strangers if this is all that happens. Anyway an earthquake and alien invasion on my new city pretty much made it pointless to continue. Oh well, there goes an evening.

To sum it up I still think this game is worth buying, but I would only plan to play alone in a locked region or with friends as multiplay with strangers is broken due to the designers not picking a direction and sticking to it.

I don't think that they're intentionally sending criminals. They're policing and fire dept are most likely more advanced therefore the criminals go there.

I'm currently playing across 3 cities in my own region and the ticker always says that about the criminals but I'm not sending criminals back and fourth between my cities.

can you buy a used retail copy of simcity ? is there a way for somebody to ''unregister'' and then sell the game ? because i tried renting it and they told me renting would be impossible .

so it's not just the always online. it's also tied to one computer .

It's tied to your account. So no, you can't resell it, but you can install it on as many computers as you want.

apparently some users were getting an error message that the game was not ... activated . please activate the game in order to play . and that after the transaction was completed and the game was downloaded and installed . but it would not start ...

something technical that you had to call ea support , chat or whatever which are not available in every region .
this is a fail
this is the problem

mac beta . i would be excited . how did they choose people for the beta ?

did you have to be already a customer on origin

can i apply ? i suppose not .

Beta

I'm playing the beta on a rMBP and it runs fine... the game itself is ok, I miss the "sim"plicity of the older simcity's but all in all i'm glad to have a simcity on the mac. I haven't really noted any major issues with the game thus far and honestly... the only complaint i have is the required internet connection but only because it takes sooooooooooo long to actually get into the the game itself. I would prefer to just launch it choose if i wanted to play online or off and jump right into my city...

FYI Target has the PC limited edition of the game for 40 bucks until the 25th of May! Just get the game and find a PC and just register the game on Origin and you'll have the Mac version waiting for when it releases.

I bought it and put it on my brothers PC got the game registered and when you look at at the area where you can download DLC it'll show the Mac version of the game preordered.

Beats paying 80 bucks for the limited or even 60 bucks for the standard.

I just sold my late 2009 imac, so I will be using my macbook retina signature below for quite while, i assume sim city will run fine on the machine based on the hardware requirements.

Yes runs fine on rMBP - i like the came, graphics are definately nice... I do miss the game play of of the older versions, they seemed so much simpler and this one almost feels over done. That said, it runs fine on mac, i have not yet experienced any major flaws.

Thanks for the feedback this is a noob question but will my MacBook fans run a lot with this game.I found some games keep my MacBook fans active.

Yes probably. I've been playing it in Windows 7 on my MBP via BootCamp and the fans run almost constantly.
