I really can't wait for the camera software update. No matter how I swing it, no matter how much I tinker with the settings, my pics come out grainy and just wholly unsatisfying. I don't even care to put them up here as examples. They just don't cut it.

I have 1.29.1540.3. What's the new software number? Bring it on, HTC. Any day now...

In areas with light, the Ultrapixels overexpose everything so you're constantly fluxing around with the ISO. It's a little annoying. Again, not convinced the tradeoffs for "better low light" is worth all this hassle.

Anyway, here are the best ones I got of the latest batch. There's noticeable grain in the snow man one.

It will be something like 1.29.1540.12

The last pic of the dog is good though :) what breed is he/she ?

yeah, i think the camera has potential, the software is keeping it back though.

what i noticed is that pictures seem to come out better when you take pictures with teh phone held vertically, not horizontally. however, thats not really a solution since there is very little use for such a format.

also, whats really annoying is that, yes pictures are brighter in low light, but they are also noticeably noisier. that makes the pictures pretty useless as they mostly come out too noise and soft.

I read that the OIS is often at fault for some shots exhibiting little blur - especially in HDR mode and that you need to keep it really steady.

For me with the new software I'm content within the confines of it really, keep focal length quite near and work to its strengths rather than try and push it in areas its weak (such as landscapes).

For myself, I just bought a Canon ixus 240 HS (16 mp, touchscreen, wifi etc..) with 16GB card for £100 off amazon. I'll use that for when I am going up mountains or hiking and want to capture mountains and landscapes. It is also cheaper than carrying a €600 phone up a mountain in case it gets damaged or moisture....

2 questions because I am thinking about swapping my S4 for a HTC One.

What is the space available out of the box. I know it is a 32gb phone but I know on the S4 7 gigabytes is taken up by the OS and bloatware.

Besides lockscreen widgets, is there anything major missing between Android 4.1 and 4.2 that would concern me on switching to the One?

1) About 27-28gb

2) power toggles in notication area! But install power toggles or settings extended and you can out them there yourself and dare I say they look better implemented than they did on the s4 where the toggles looked very brash. HTC One as some nice lock screens so you can customise the content, and you could also install widget locker pro if you want to put your own widgets on the lock screen.

It's unlikely that they've been sitting there waiting for 4.3 instead of working on 4.2 this whole time. Which means they probably won't just throw out all their work and start working on 4.3 instead.

I don't know it depends if 4.2 provided enough extra to justify the upgrade.

Remember we will likely get a Sense 5.01 or 5.1 update at same time which will likely add more sources to Blinkfeed and sort out things like menu button. Personally I'd rather have those changes on their own than just bumping software version upto 4.2.2

How do we feel about HTC One VS Note II? Now that I've gotten fully acclimated to Android, I find myself craving an even larger display. It would be cool to have one device that acts as a smartphone and a mini tablet. The looks and speakers on this One are just so so good though. Tough decision.

After my experience with the s4 I just can not consider using any device using Touchwiz as it stands. I'm sure hardware wise it is a fine machine, but I just can't consider using Samsung software, I detested it that much.

If you are craving bigger, wait till note 3 is announced. If the rumours are true and Samsung use a metal design for the note 3 (to differentiate it further from the galaxy mega) then it could be a lovely looking device.

I like the One better, however I do miss the large screen and battery life. The One has a higher quality display that can be viewed in sunlight, is faster, smoother, I like sense a lot more than touchwiz, and of course has a better design.

If you want to swap out now, you should get an Optimus G Pro, it has the same size screen as a note, but it's 1080p with better colors and brightness. It also has the same processor as the One and is more comfortable to hold than the note.

I hope HTC makes a phablet phone, but if not I'm might get a note 3 when it comes out.

Auto Sequence Bug???

So I have been playing with the Zoe feature on my Camera and I noticed that every time I tried editing and doing an "Auto Sequence", it is suppose to capture every movement and post them into 1 photo.

As you can see for the pic below, I was rolling a pencil and captured a Zoe video then tried editing by doing the "Auto Sequence". For some reason, it doesn't sequence my the rolling pencil shots. All you can see is my jenky hands and thats it. Has anyone else have this problem?

What's with the Sense Weather app giving you military hours in the "Hourly" section?

I can't seem to find a way to switch it to regular time (like 1 PM instead of 13:00 hours).

What the hell is that, HTC?

It almost looks like your lens it dirty, which is causing the blur and overblown effect. Try wiping it with a cloth before you take your shots.

What's with consumers being a little dumb?

Settings
Date & Time
Untick 24 Hour Clock

What the hell is that Couch ? ;) :p

What I'm worried about, is can they detect it? Is there a difference between tethering on the One vs the iphone that may make it undetectable?

Because I did use my iphone 4 to tether maybe a year and a half ago, and got a call from AT&T that they see I was tethering and if I didn't cease I'd be moved off my unlimited data plan, to which I could not return. Rather than risk that, I quit tethering.

I'm not sure how they detect it, but I don't think it has anything to do with using insane amounts of data. My data use was pretty consistent from month-to-month, and I was only tethering occasionally to surf the web when in public on my laptop or wifi only tablet.

Now I have an HTC One, and wondering if there is anything about tethering that makes it undetectable or different from my previous iphone tethering.

From my experience, I had a HTC Wildfire(not network locked) there wasn't a need to tether my phone via WiFi hotspot, but when I updated to the OneX it was networked locked so therefore needed a 'tether' package from the cell network provider. I'm from the UK, so I'm not sure how it all works in your neck of the woods. It might be worth doing some more investigation as if your paying for an unlimited service then the company is infringing on it's own product and your liberty by effectively limiting your 'unlimited' package... trading standards? regardless of small print?

Sir, it is unticked. That's for the clock at the top right corner of the status bar and it doesn't show 24 hour clock. And it never did.

As far as I know there's no way to change the hours of the weather app.

Tried that. No avail. The ultra pixels is more hype than anything. The bigger lens over exposes pics in light and only produces marginally better shots in the dark. That's been my results anyway. You constantly have to tinker with it to get it right.

If there is a way to change it, it will be in the weather settings portion. If there is no option I guess you cannot. I honestly felt like mine was correct out of the box. I wonder if b.c you have the dev edition it is in a different format.

That's what I figured.

HTC, why? It's not a big deal but it's just silly to only offer 24 hour clocks in the otherwise beautiful weather app. HTC...
