You can edit 4K video and see all of the pixels, and you can surf the web and the fonts will automatically be rendered at 5K

What thing is needed to be optimised for it? Well, apps might need to get used to the new CPU and GPU but that should be simple. But Retina has been around in Apple's line up for years and this move is nothing significant at all aside from how impressive a 5K display truly is.

let's hope that the new display doesn't suffer from same uneven color, yellow tone, and image persistence issues that the rest of the large screen imacs suffered in the past.

It truly is the most incredible computer anyone has ever built. That display is gorgeous and you'll be consumed by every pixel. The price is just insane it's cheaper to buy an iMac than a rival standalone display. This is a no-brainer upgrade for everyone really.

Actually a lot of apps are already optimized for it since Apple had retina on Mac OS since 2012. Photoshop, Office, etc. all look great on retina already.
