Wait til the iPad 4 where they fix all the issues discovered with the new iPad.

iPad 2 > iPad 3rd gen

The retina display on the iP3 is the biggest upgrade to any tablet EVER. Period.

The iP2 display is just horrible in comparison. Truly horrible side by side.

The iPad3 is so F...ing sweet. LOVE it!

I laugh at ALL the people who think this was a "minor" upgrade. Laugh. If the hardware inside can make it run (which it can), then the display (what you look at & touch), is the single biggest thing that can be upgraded....and Apple did that to perfection.

2048 X 1536 = heaven.

What issues? None here.

Laugh...greater than...lol. Funny.

Sorry, I meant greater or equal than:

iPad 2 >= iPad 3rd gen

And yes, search these forums, there are way too many issues for me to start naming off.

A completely meaningless measure. The people with complaints are FAR more likely to post than those that don't.

For proof, go compare:

The number of people that complained about the iPhone 4s to those who posted that they loved it.

Then compare:

Apple's sales of the iPhone 4s compared to the iPhone 4. Also have a look at the independent customer satisfaction ratings that hit the news from time to time.

I have an iPad 3 and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. I know a number of people with the 3 and they all feel exactly the same.

Thanks for the replies, I have decided to go ahead and buy the new iPad. I miss having one at home. I am sure when I start using the display all doubts will be banished. Hopefully there will be no issues, and I have decided to open it in store to check for back light bleed/pixels. If I see anything wrong, I ll get it exchanged there and then. Then I have 2 weeks to return if I don't like it....but I highly doubt I will return it.
Ok, off the the nearest store....

Just an update, I decided to wait a few more weeks, and this morning I purchased a white 16gb wifi only version and the screen is perfect. It's a week 14 build. No backlight bleed, dead pixels, leakage, yellowing....and the outside is perfect too. My luck is in! Very happy, it's not too much heavier that I even notice, or thicker and there is no warmth either, even playing Mass Effect optimised for retina.
Hopefully the production issues are now over, cheers to you all!

I had some thoughts similar to yours before upgrading my iPad2. However, I got a unit with no issues at all, and it feels qualitatively different to my previous iPad due to the screen. The screen is gorgeous and I have no battery or heat issues. In terms of usage, I use my iPad extensively as an e-reader for work, which gave the screen extra value for me.

It's amazing, you can even see little graphical errors, where even apple have not updated the icon properly,,,,,the screen is that clear! Compare the camera app icon to the FaceTime app icon to see what I mean. Sometimes app store apps have little lines on the icon, perhaps the graphics work needs sharpened. Have a look at Tunein Radio pro,,,the very top of the icon is cut off....well, this is just nitpicking, but nothing to do with the screen itself. Glad you got lucky too! Enjoy!
