Only disapointed in the screen size. wish they had gone for the horizontal version people were mocking up. But from what ive heard is that a wide screen horizontal version is to be released in the spring. already ordered one and may trade it in when the wide screen comes out. otherwise im very excited. Oh, and my aapl stock is booming!! sweet! :D

Yes, something built right into iTunes would be nice. I'm reallly lazy.

you dont have to set your movies to 320x240 to play them on the ipod video. thats just the screens ratio. if you plan on hooking it up to a tv you can set them at 720x480 or 640x480 so they look good. they will still play on your 320x480 ipod screen. :)

This new iPod met my expectations (gimmicky video, slimmer). It was very far from meeting my desires (improve music playback, please!), but I didn't expect Apple to pay any attention to that little detail...

Like others I was expecting 40/80 GB. I wasn't expecting to lose firewire though, on the top end iPod.

An unexpected plus is the stereo recording capability. If suitable accessories appear, it will finally mean I don't need the mini disc anymore.

Hopefully the claims about the sound quality are justified, and there is no sign of the piano distortion issue that affected many iPod photos. We'll know soon.

What is this whole losing firewire thing, does everyone mean that their is no firewire cable in the box or that this iPod will not function with a firewire cable. I have a 3rd Gen iPod Dock, plus a cable i used that plugs into the dock connecter that has a firewire cable, will this still work does anyone know?? I know that if it does fit in the dock it will not appear to sit perfectly but with the universal dock adapter allow it to work with my 3rd Gen dock(the one that came with the 20 gig)?

I was a little disappointed that it did not have a widescreen display, but is that really a big deal? To me it's not. The videos I plan to watch on my iPod when I eventually get one are in the standard 4:3 ratio. I'm talking about Family Guy episodes, Futurama, Lost (yes, I know 16:9 is an option), etc. And plus, just being able to carry music, photos and videos around with you is awesome, especially with the video-out. It's a movie player on the go, whether you want to watch it on the iPod's screen or a regular television. I'm also glad they stuck with the regular vertical form. Like someone said early on in this thread (I don't feel like scrolling :p) I don't want to have to constantly look down at my controls to see what I am pressing. A center clickwheel is perfect how it is. :) A widescreen form would have been nice, so don't take me wrong. I'm just saying there is nothing wrong with the vertical form of it. It just... works. :)

We won't know for sure until people start getting their hands on them, but my money's on Places Your Cigar Wasn't Meant To Be. :D

Steve has also said that the iPod/iTunes team is staffed by music lovers, but I fail to see how that's possible when they've demonstrated a repeated lack of attention to certain musical details. But don't mind me, I'm just the cranky old curmudgeon listening to his music in the corner. :p

i'm really happy with the new ipods. hopefully, battery life will be as good as they say it is. too bad i just bought a new nano, but since apple's sucked me (and many other people btw) into buying everything and anything they release, it looks like i'll be saving up some money. :D

But it will always be a great music player. ;)

I think a touchscreen and wireless will eventually come, but it will still have the scroll wheel. These 2 new features would give it a world of possibilities, or maybe more accurately a world of 'Extras'.

We have already gotten a sneak peek at the future control of the iPod, and that is the remote. Steve J, plans on making the iPod a mobile HUB, while the Mac a stay at home HUB. Perfect sense. ;)

The remote is a testing ground, and it started with the iPod Shuffle. The iMac remote and the iPod remote is just the start. Next step is to either increase the screen size and add touch screen capability to it. ;)

It will become into a PDA, however one step at a time. :D

I ordered a black 60 gig one. I was hoping for the 80 but hey, the 60 will still be plenty til my next computer with more space to put all this stuff! I think the screen is great and the fact that it is THINNER than my current 40 gig is pretty ridiculous. Lots of people seem to be disappointed but I couldn't be happier with this announcement.

Yes, finally Apple has released the long-awaited video iPod. I know that many people here were waiting for this, yet it seems like a lot of people are dissatisfied   . What were your expectations? Bigger screen? Touch navigation, etc?

As for my self, I couldn't be happier with how the video ipod turned out. Sure a sideways wide screen with touch screen controls would have been cool at first, but I really think I would get sick of it in the long term. The iPod is a successful player because it plays music well. I can more or less navigate my iPod without looking. My touch screen remote control for my TV, not so much. Its annoying! I would hate to have to look at my iPod all the time just to see where the next button is. I'm very glad its still a music player, and the new thinner design is pretty amazing. Anyway, just my thoughts.

As the first couple of posters said, a great start IMO. I know that it seems very anti-iPod; but I do wish Apple would see that there is a need/desire/demand for an iPod Maxi. It would be an Epson P-2000/P-4000 killer.

Something with a 3" to 3.8" high def screen. Handle speedy downloads of RAW and JPG files, with a built in CF/SD reader. The promise of better video compatibility than the P-2000/P-4000. Also with the iPod's great ease of use for playing back songs. If my customers (and myself) are any indication; a price point of $499 to $699 for a 40gb to 80gb HDD would sell.

As an Epson P-2000 owner, I do not really need the size of the standard iPod. The new Nano meets my portability needs. And I have no problem with carrying both the Nano and the Maxi I proposed. For my upcoming trip, I will be carrying both.

Apple has built itself in the past on niche markets. With the iPod they have given way to the mass market. It is time that they rediscover that niche markets can be profitable and build on the "halo effect" that they seem to be building.

Totally agree with you man

I am dissapointed with this ipod

For the new ipod/itunes all i wanted was gapless playback, when you do the whole "join tracks" thing in itunes it should be able to join the tracks as a file so they play gapless but insert the tracks as seperate songs into itunes (using bookmarks in m4b or a cue file or something)

Secondly i'd love a video capability, but the resolution is way too low for decent viewing on a tv

And last but not least, no upgrade to 80gig! whats the go with this? i expected bigger capacity for a video ipod.
