I've seen for months people wondering about the new Mac mini coming on June, then July, now hoping it will be October or so... I don't know what you think about this, but the the Apple website promotes (and has been promoting for a while) the current Mac mini as "The new Mac mini". It would be a very bad commercial move to be promoting "The new Mac mini" in their page, and then just release all of a sudden an updated Mac mini, it wouldn't even make sense if they release it in a couple of months. I don't know for how long they've been advertising the mini like that, but if I were a customer and I bought the mini thinking it's the newest as they state in their page, and in a few days or weeks they release a new mini, I would be quite pissed off. IMHO, if they were to relase a mini anytime during this year, or at least the next few months, the webpage wouldn't say "The new Mac mini", they would change it to "The Mac mini" or something like that. Don't want to ruin the day, but help however wants one to decide, or be corrected if anyone thinks I'm wrong!

I think the only reason it says the new Mac mini is to show that the this generation has a 2x faster processors and graphics and it has a thunderbolt port. I am also pretty sure it has been there since it was released. I don't think they would change it because the technology is old. It is still the "new" Mac mini.

Yes, something is "new" until there is something newer. Although many companies try to avoid this word when a technology is decades old - but after one year, I don't think it's a big problem.

Until the most recent update, even the 3-year-old Mac Pro still said "The New Mac Pro" on its page in the store.

I think Apple are getting a bit slow updating their website in general. On the mini store page it states that it still ships with Lion.

Personally I don't tend to think Apple would shift the focus from the rMBA just yet with an upgraded mini or iMac.

I would say it will be launched some time between now and the iPhone 5 release rumored to be early October (ref

    My guess? September.

My hope - they stop making them. that would really put the cat among the pigeons and be hugely entertaining.

Not that they're likely to - but the thought is highly amusing given all the 'certainty' that has been expressed on this forum over the past year. So many members saying 'definitely on this date' or 'for sure' on that. And others holding off buying because a newer version is (or was) imminent.

I'm not hugely bothered about a new one - I certainly won't rush to buy. Will it make my mid 2011 redundant? No.. obviously not given the numbers still using much older versions to great effect.

Mine is completely standard - apart from a RAM increase. Once the warranty has expired then I will upgrade, by swapping the HD. If or when my machine suffers a catastrophic failure or due to changes in technology becomes unusable - then I will upgrade to whatever is available.

But until then i'm content with what I have and will continue to be entertained by the incessant speculation and crystal ball gazing nonsense.
