They also forget to mention that other phones can't play my protected AAC content.

If other phones could play it then I'd be all over it, but since I'm so addicted to iTunes and digital distribution, well you know the rest.

This is going to be interesting, that's for sure.

First, Sprint is said to be spending $100m to advertise this thing, the most ever. Second, it's being released in June, the same time Apple's suppose to release the 3G iPhone.

So my scenario is this:

Sprint releases it, people buy it, new iPhone comes out that does all this, people see the new iPhone, general public thinks that Sprint lied to them about the iPhones capabilities... ect. Either that or Apple announces the 3G iPhone and hurts the Instinct before it's even out the door...

I laugh right back at my friends or co-workers when they point out to me that their RAZR (or other phones) has MMS, Video Recording, Ability to share media through bluetooth with each other, and some having higher res cameras and some even have the internet...

So I always ask back "Can your phone play 2,000 songs?", "Do you Have Cover Flow?", "Does Your Phone have a 3.5inch Screen for browsing or watching Movies?", "Does Your Internet look Like This?", "Do You Have YouTube on Your Phone?", "Can you scroll through your pictures like this?" and so on and so on......

No offense, and I'm a huge Apple and iPhone fan, but your arguments are getting less and less valid, particularly considering the answer to most of your questions is "yes."

Things like this make me think that the subsidizing may in fact happen. With the introduction of all the "iPhone killers" this past year (and I'm not arguing that any of them actually do that) there are at the very least perceived choices in this type of device out there. If phones like the Instinct cost $250 after subsidies with a 2 year contract and an iPhone costs $500... I'd be surprised if they get 10 million units sold.

And somewhat on subject... do people really care about/use cover flow? I think it's pretty... and horrifically inefficient. I never use it and would (again, no offense) laugh at anyone who bragged about it.

Good points. All the spinoffs are putting more pressure on Apple to really separate the iPhone from everything else, or simply bring the price down. The storage is a plus. I don't know how many other phones claim to have 16 GB including the instinct.

iPhone's OS is far superior but people don't really experience that unless they try it.

I think Apple will have something special in store for v.2.

Also, AT&T's wifi hotspots are attractive.

edit - 2 GB microSD card comes standard. Upgradeable to 8 GB. 3.1" diagonal screen.

I have to admit some of them made me laugh.

I would be embarrassed by the internet speed on the Instinct as well as the iPhone in the one commercial.

no CDMA device is or ever will be better than a GSM device... NEVER EVER WILL BE.

I would respectfully disagree. As someone who has had the iPhone with ATT, Treo 700wx with Sprint, Blackberry Pearl with Tmo and currently the Blackberry Pearl with Verizon, all within the last 18 months, I would say the Vzw BB Pearl spanks the GSM counterpart. And even not comparing apples to apples, in alot of ways the VZW BB Pearl is better than my iPhone, due to overall functionality. Dont get me wrong, I am sad looking at my iPhone on my desk collecting dust... but my Pearl is more functional, also partly because of EDGE Rev A and the vzw network here in NE Fl. Now when the 3G iPhone comes out I am tempted to buy it and go back and see how the 3G network with ATT is here. Cuz right now, the regular GSM sux.

I think it's funny that people make fun of the iPhone for what it lacks but quickly shut up when they realize what it can do and how easy it is to use.

Marketing droids push numbers and features

Apple pushes usability.

The difference is subtle, but important.
