When will the next iMac update be?

Yea, I'm not "THAT" upset with the HD2600XT/Pro as long as we get some updated drivers soon. :)

But it's so simple to add the optional upgrade, and that's why I'm slightly "irritated" by Apple! :(

Even so, I'm a happy & "dedicated" Mac user (I've never bought a win/PC), and I've been so since 1993! ;)

Oh, and congrats on your 14th anniversary SaSaSushi! :)

Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all! I have finally decided to participate in this great community.

I also can't wait to see updates to the iMac as soon as possible. I'd like to upgrade from my ageing 12'' Powerbook, NOW!!! :D

Like what everyone mentioned, the graphics card makes it hard for me to decide whether to upgrade now or when it is updated. All other things are not so important (like Penryn or not).

I have an idea. Why not we start a petition for Apple to include better Nvidia cards as an option? With the recent Mac Pro/GeForce 8800 GT fiasco, a petition seems like a good idea -- if not, the only option -- to 'persuade' people to do something about it :p

Has anyone heard of when the update will happen? I know the buyer guide says not to buy, but I gots money burning a hole in my pocket. I have been checking almost everyday and nothing. Also, there was a lot of talk about a new iphone before Macworld and that has gone dry also. Please advise!!!

Interestingly that's been a month since this thread was started. So you've either been waiting for another month with your existing machine or could have had a shiny new iMac for a month.

Amazing how time flies!

As the thread starter, I would have to say that 'buying when you need it' is a good lesson to take away from this. While I can completely see the logic in waiting to buy when you don't really need the machine, for me... I think I made the right choice by buying a new iMac a couple of weeks ago. I am VERY happy with is so far and this baby screams!

I am certain that we will see an update to the iMac within the next 3 months, so if you have no problem waiting that long... then by all means. However, if you are just hoping it will be in the next 3 weeks... don't hold your breath. If you need it, just buy it. You won't be sorry, it is a beautiful machine!

It's done

So, I couldn't wait anymore and finally ordered the 24" 2.4 Ghz iMac and I'm really looking forward to it :)

I am going to buy 4 gigs of RAM (third party) to put in as well. I just keep my fingers crossed for a swift arrival and that everything will be alright :p

I went with the smallest hard disk, as I already have 3 externals on a USB-hub, just waiting to be plugged in :D I wonder if I will have to convert my NTFS disks to the MacOS format, however  Looking forward to play around with it :)

what they ought to do, given the 2009 digital television mandate and the company's apparent strategy to make the imac an all-in-one home entertainment device, is come out with a 30-36" (at least) special imac that includes a blueray dvd drive, ships with wireless keyboard and mouse, and includes a cable BNC input connector. this would provide many of those of us who will be shopping for new televisions in the coming year with a phenomenal living room home entertainment solution. if they came with something in the 30-42" range screen they could make it a bit thicker (and lose the chin beneath the screen, even), and it would rock the home entertainment market like no other. with itunes, apple tv, internet and this thing filling in for the living room tellie, there'd be no stopping it.

i know that in the $1500-2500 price range (or whatever comparably sized high-end LCD/plasma televisions of that size range sell for), i'd order one immediately!

since apple's part of the blueray consortium, it makes sense that the next wave of their computers will have those drives (if they can write, that is).

here's to crossing one's fingers!
30" BluRay playing iMac is the dream yes. :apple:

Its called that the update the iMac every 2 to 3 years and it was updated in the Summer so around 2009 or 2010
I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say (English?), but what I think you are referring to are the redesigns of the iMac? … Well, specs updates are much more frequent then redesigns, and we are currently waiting for a change to the Penryn processors = specs update = NOT a redesign!

I'm waiting myself.

I currently have a 1Ghz eMac that is upgraded as much as I possibly could (1GB Ram, Airport Extreme Card, Replaced the DVD drive with a Dual-Layer one) and it's about 4 1/2 years old so I'm looking forward to a new one, but it's my no means urgent.

I'm sitting at my desk looking at two printouts: One of a fully upgraded 24" model and the other of a fully upraded 20" model, at $2544 and $1824 after tax respectively. I need to take some measurements on my desk to see that a 24" is viable but from what I see at work (CompUSA) the 24" has a better panel, and while I'm a graphic designer, I really think that 20" is good enough for me.

So, now I wait. I'd hate to purchase a brand new computer when two months later something replaces it. Yes, I know you can never keep up with technology but I'd really love to purchase something brand new on day one.

Even slimmer thanks to development with MBA but still with optical drive slot built into bottom of support stand....oh and please please please let us have blu-ray, Im dying to burn my HD home movies onto something :D
