If Apple doesn't build this into the OS I'm sure a 3rd party will offer it (though I suppose you may have to disable some system protection features like SIP if it runs as a 3rd party app?? Not sure how locked down Monterrey is...)Don’t mind the notch at all either, but when not in dark mode, they should provide a way to make the menu bar dark to blend in like in dark mode.
Don't mind the notch. However, the million dollar question is what the developers opinion on the notch are and how programs that utilize full screen will adapt to the notch.
Missed that article. Thanks.macOS Hides the Notch on New MacBook Pro in Full-Screen Mode
The new MacBook Pros, for the first time in a Mac, feature a notch. While some have been quick to criticize Apple's design choice, it turns out...www.macrumors.com
I don’t understand people getting angry at the notch, it’s great; apple is giving us more screen space and thinner bezels what’s not to like
This is a parody post, right? You forgot the /sI don’t understand people getting angry at the notch, it’s great; apple is giving us more screen space and thinner bezels what’s not to like
UI shouldn't be needed to hide the notch. Honestly, I'm shocked to see Apple is hiding it in the fullscreen UI because that is a full reversal of the Human Interface Guidelines they introduced with the iPhone notchWith proper UI the notch can be hidden. With the deeper black of Micro LED it shouldn’t be that noticeable.
They had to put the notch there for the 1080p webcam it seems (they’re also preparing us for Face ID I’m sure) and if they didn’t, we would have LOST screen real estate on the old model display. It doesn’t make any sense the screen space you gain with the notch isn’t that much. Why does it have to be that long and thick, it looks like a notch from pixel 3 xl. I would preferred if they kept the same design as the 2019 16” .

I think the pinhole approach and/or under screen camera was simply not workable or too expensive, especially in this supply chain crisis-driven environment and with the addition of mini-LED. They’ll eventually get rid of it when they can. Until then, it doesn’t much bother me.The iPhone notch mostly fits within the MacBook's newly thin bezels. The iPhone has had 1080p front-facing video for years, and it has even MORE sensors packed into that small area.
Don't let Apple gaslight you into believing the notch was necessary here. It was not. In a few years, they will shrink it by 20% and call it a "Revolutionary" achievement.
did they create an obstruction, or did they add more screen real estate? The notch looks terrible. Who ever heard of creating an obstruction in a computer screen? It's absurd. A pinhole camera would have been a lot better.

Yes, but the iPhone is much thicker than the MacBook Pro display. Hence, I’m guessing they needed the extra room, especially with mini-LED. Please chime in, engineers 👩💻👨🏻💻This is simply not true. Your iPhone has had 1080p front-facing video for years and it's notch is much smaller. The iPhone notch mostly fits inside the newly-thin bezels of the new MacBook.
