From the day of the keynote, I have not been a fan of the X.

I just got back from the Apple store and I am still not a fan.

To those who say the notch doesn't bother them or that the notch is not noticable, well, it may not bother you, but it is noticable. And it bothered me. I noticed it. I played with it for nearly an hour and I could not stop noticing it. Maybe I was too concious of it, but it bothered me the entire time.

The phone itself is very buttery smooth, it feels good to hold in the hand, and the gestures which replace the home button work pretty good, though bringing up the app switcher is a bit slower than double pressing the home button. Obviously I could not test Face ID as it was a display unit.

I was hoping there would be something which would sway me, but there wasn't. Ultimately as a Plus user going to the X would be a downsize for me. I liken it to moving from a 4 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house. Quite simply, the Plus screen has more relevant real estate than the X.

Nice phone, screen didn't wow me as much as I thought because I had already spent time playing with the Note 8 which has a superior screen IMO, but the usable screen size which is affected by the narrower width and the notch are total deal breakers for me.

But to those who got an X and are loving it, happy for you, and I hope to be in your shoes this time next year.

As you said, everybody will take acceptance of the notch or shun it. I personally have no issue with it. Face ID ultimately makes up for the notch and the OLED dislay overrides any concerns, as everything looks vibrant and smooth.

Eqch to their own. Hopefully a Plus size comes out next year, I could live with with one if I had the other but expecting Plus owners to cop the double whammy was too much IMO.

What do you want people to say? You gave your opinion; fair enough, but it was hardly worthy of its own thread and isn’t even really very original.

Exactly what you said. That's all that had to be said in the first place. And I'm giving my opinion just like everyone else.

Responses like that are boring. Come back with something original.
Something original? Come back with an original topic that hasn’t been talked about a few million times on this forum already;)
[doublepost=1509848035][/doublepost]To the topic itself, I like the notch there. It’s more of an icon with it. You look at an iPhone X at first glance and you’ll know it’s an iPhone X. The design looks good.

...so you went there already hating it and looked for reasons to validate those feelings. Congratulations?

It's not beautiful. It's a cut out of an oled screen. Ultimaltely no notch is better than a notch.
You’re claiming to say that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but your statement doesn’t support that notion.

I hated the idea of the notch until I used it. I actually like how it looks. It gives the phone a unique look, and the info is tucked pleasantly into the ears. I do think it’s ridiculous in landscape mode, however.

I’m returning the X for a reason I didn’t see coming: it’s size and weight. Too heavy for me. I prefer featherweight phones.

I’ll reconsider Apple’s latest design language if they release an SE size design or make the X a little thinner and lighter in its next iteration.

Unfortunately you haven’t said a whole lot that hasn’t already been said here ad nauseum. If you’re going to start your own thread on a topic that’s been discussed and not add anything unique to it, expect some blowback.

My response to the notch being noticeable is that bezels are just as noticeable and a larger waste of space. I’d prefer nothing in the front but I accept that we need a way to still use this thing as a phone and to authenticate the user beyond a password.

Frankly, the notch is a compromise, but the thick chin and forehead have been a bigger compromise for an entire decade now.

i was expecting some crazy long rant from you again..
instead, just a nice first impressions review.
so thanks for that
;)

"Obviously I could not test Face ID as it was a display unit."

Do they disable Settings on Apple's display models?

I wouldn't be surprised if the notch stays for a few generations if Apple moves everything to the bezel-less design. The notch will be their signature to make them distinct from other phones.
