MORE EDIT: Catfish, what sort of stuff are covered under the NDA agreement, I don't mean, tell us what (obviously) but rather, the general whist of things... is it like, everything concerning X matter may not be disclosed, etc.?

If it's not on Apple's website, it's NDA'd.

For those who haven't read the article, Quartz 2D Extreme was disabled (and still is). This is a shame considering how much Apple harped on about it, and the massive performance improvements it brings.

I remember hearing that it only brought massive performance improvements for certain applications, but for the majority of applications on the market it actually slowed performance. That's why it isn't enabled in Tiger.

(and no, I don't remember where I read it...)

You forgot improvements to Safari..

Expanding tabs...move em around..Tab preview of a website..Auto widgets for web pages etc..

No. It's on the list. Safari upgrade.

So, with Q2DE, will we be able to enable/disable ourselves.. or will it remain disabled by default or become enabled by default? Any word on this?

^^ In reference to Leopard, of course.

QuartzGL nee Quartz 2D Extreme will be developer "opt in"

And what about the builtin virtualization software to run windows apps on the same os MAC OS X? Is that still rumor?

Thanks,

Leopard, SO FAR except for Spaces: Yawn. Not a single thing on this list excites me (again, except Spaces). To me the leap from Panther to Tiger was bigger (so far).

Now there are supposedly "secret features" - that could turn the "Yawn so far" into "WOW!!!".

its a shame that leopard will still not feature the ability to write to ntfs natively.

it was mentioned that all the extra animation in leopard will be handled be the gpu, so shouldn't hit performance. isn't the gma 950, and other such on-board graphic chipsets, set to share the system memory?
this would mean on systems with integrated graphics, there may be a performance hit when all the bells and whistles are turned on.

(mind you, if you have 2+Gb of ram, it'll probably not even feel it)

You can have the feature of Spaces right now there are a couple of Virtual Desktops available for OS X right now. It's not a big features. Time Machine is FAR more complex. Panther to Tiger was a solid jump but Tiger to Leopard is a larger jump IMO. Tiger has the vestiges of Leopard stuff hidden but Leopard brings about Resolution Independence, Core Rext (faster text rendering), Core Animation and CPU prioritization and a lot more features. Skin deep won't reveal much about Leopard as of yet but looking at the guts shows many improvements. The Top Secret features will be flash IMO because developers are certainly keen about the "mundane" stuff which elicits yawns from those looking for flash.

NTFS write would be nice. The Centrino Pro X3000 graphics should perform nicely as it has a 675Mhz clock. Apple just has to make sure the drivers perform correctly.

This is total nonsense. The resolution is now independent of what? The time of day?

In fact, it is the other way around, you should say:

6. Resolution independent GUI

I second that.

And if you could lay off the *drool* and similar expressions that would be nice too.

Anyway, for me one of the nicest features hasn't been named yet, and that is system-wide grammar checking. If it works well and is multilingual this will an awesome addition.

This topic could have enormous potential, but only when a few things are changed:

- Out with the childish stuff (*drool*)
- Fix clear errors (like the one I pointed out for instance)
- Make a clear distinction between 'Sure' and 'Unsure' features. Every feature in the 'Sure' list should have at least one link to a reliable (no speculation) source article or a Keynote video. Links to a large Keynote video should be accompanied by a reference to which minute in the keynote it is actually being announced.
- Every feature in the 'Unsure' list should only be mentioned when the sources are credible. If Digitimes says Leopard will run on my fridge it should not be in the list.
- Every feature in the 'Unsure' list should have at least one link to a source article or a Keynote video. Links to a large Keynote video should be accompanied by a reference to which minute in the keynote started the speculation.

Either the Topic Starter can alter the Start Post or someone with enough time on their hands could start a new topic. If it's done right it could even become a frontpage worthy news article.
