i'm pretty sure they were being sarcastic :)

Yeah I know, that's worse. It's going to be a running joke for how long?

Apple should call the first Intel Powerbook "The 'G5' Powerbook".

how is this "official"? just wondering

and i really hope the rumors are true that the intel ibooks will be released then.

lol I sooo typed that to get people's attention - and cuz I want it to be the sole place where people come to voice their wishes and predictions, rather than having them scattered throughout MacRumors.

Let's see:

  • iLife '06 consisting of Front Row, Aperture Express (formerly iPhoto 6), iMovie HD 2 (native HDV editing, more realtime effects), iDVD HD, GB 3, iTunes 7 (multiple libraries).
  • 2GB shuffle with 1-line LCD screen
  • Intel PowerBook (iBook line dropped in favor of a unified line)
  • Firewire audio interface break-out box (Asteroid)

I agree - these are my wishes.

However, as for actual predictions:
-they won't add a screen to the shuffle. The nano is thin and small and pretty affordable for what you get - they won't make it 2GB either, that would conflict with the nano line.
-they won't get rid of a consumer line of laptops. Apple has a much higher share in laptops than in desktops, with the iBook being its most popular laptop. They won't get rid of it. One of the things I love about Apple is how easy it is to differentiate their pro/consumer lines (although I believe that the PowerBook is in dire need of an update!)
-I don't see an iTunes 7. 3 massive upgrades in 5 months? No way. It'll go to 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, etc. before they update it again. Adding libraries could be a .1 update, I suppose.

sounds pretty dead on... but i dont see a screen on the shuffle.... it seems like the simplicity of the current version is working great... and the screen, personally, would make it look tacky.... its great now for what its designed for.

I do see 2GB though

I dont see Apple dropping the iBook's.

The eMac's were ok to drop because they hardly sold...

You can't say that the iBook's hardly sell

The big thing I am hoping for is updated Apple Cinema Displays. I have my eyes on the 23-inch model, but am waiting it out until after MacWorld. I'm hoping its updated with specs equal to or better than the new iMac's displays. I'm also hoping for something special to be added to it... what I want to be added? No idea... I'm just hoping Apple surprises me with something really cool.

Second thing has to be an Intel-equipped Mac mini. While I don't really need one since I am getting a Quad in the near future, it would still be nice just to have one and have fun with it. It would also act as a HTPC, so that would be pretty awesome. And just having one of the first Intel Macs would be cool. I'm a geek like that. :)

Third would be something iPod-related. I realize we just got new iPods, but this is Apple we are talking about. Whether it's larger capacity iPod nanos or new shuffles... I'll be interested no matter what... as long as something iPod-related is announced.

My wishlist

They will finally release an Palm/PocketPC device with OSX Lite!
It can also serve as a remote for any Mac that supports front row.
Have your cake and eat it too! It will then morph into a phone in some revision in the next year, compatible with either wifi (ala Vonage X10 softphone) or Cingular.
Also, SNL ipods! Capable of storing 1 million songs and every episode "summary" of every cast member of SNL.
MAJOR Kudos to the "powerbook G5" moniker for any ibook/powerbook released at MW. That irony would be way too RICH!

On a serious note, I woudl put even money on a powerbook/ibook hybrid and mac mini. The Intel OSX version is rarin to pop and on propietary hardware and limited upgrade opportunities they are a shoo in.
