I use myself trying to connect to my server 🙂 When I'm trying to get work done all night long and I can't FTP, SSH or check over HTTP, I start keeping track of when I first noticed it stop working until dreamhoststatus.com says it is up again (even though that often is before it actually is working).

Ah -- I thought you were alluding to some app that pings the server every so often (minute? hour?) and keeps a log of success and what-not.

Then again ... A quick script and a cron entry would do the same job w/out writing a full app. 🙂
 
Hmmm. One of my sites is accessible, and one isn't. Which is very strange, considering they're on the same server.

Edit: The status page says they are coming back up right now.
 
I've moved my sites over to ASO - we're getting ready to go live with a site at work next month and I can't deal with this BS anymore.

To the folks who warned about oversellers like DH a while back: I believe you now. 🙂
 
My website hosted by Ipowerweb also went down for a few hours. I was contemplating moving over to siteground but everything is fine.

Weird because yesterday, I got over 64GB of bandwidth traffic to my site. All coming from China. 😡 I've since updated my .htaccess file to exclude all CN IP ranges. 😀
 
Well here we are another lovely day of Dreamhost problems.

None of my Dreamhost sites are currently accessible as of 12:55pm Chicago time.

EDIT: Seems like it's going in and out.

"The network is bad" is their explanation. (??)

Your main page is up and running. You've done no tweaks to the forums recently? Just curious.

The main page is hosted on a AppleShare IP 5.02 / Mac OS 7.6.1 server that I own, not by Dreamhost. It has been way more reliable than Dreamhost, I must say 🙄 Dreamhost hosts my forums since there is no PHP implementation (that I know of) for AppleShare IP 5.

The only tweaks I made recently were to template files, which, had something gone wrong there, would have made a different error message. Also, the time between the last tweak I made and the forums not working was quite large (about 20 minutes).

EDIT: I sure wish it wasn't Sunday!

You should get an older G4 and run OS X as a server only (no GUI, apache tweaks such as auto-log-rotating).

Unless you want to be gung-ho and set up a mail server and FTP and such, it is very easy to get a Mac OS X computer running a feature-rich website.

It's hosted on a Mac OS 7 server because it's a web site about Mac OS 7 and so that goes along with the theme, and it actually works excellently other than the lack of PHP support.
 
Can I honestly ask why the hell you dont switch hosts already?

Well, I already know the answer. Its such a pain to switch. I didnt move from my previous host when I had so many problems because I didnt wanna rearrange all the scripts, databases, and files.

But recently I had no choice and had to find a new host. I tried several, and can honestly say that A Small Orange is amazing. I didnt believe the hype that I read on this board, but its true. Theyre awesome.

Because Dreamhost is cheap, and if you look at the date range of this thread, these problems come up usually once ever two months or so.

I already moved Hostway to Dreamhost, and that was a pain in the butt area, so I don't know if I'd really want to move hosts again.
 
UPDATE: Web site suddenly went live again around 1:00 in the afternoon today. Email from Dreamhost:

processes couldn't run. We took care of the problem and your site is
loading fine again.

I'm glad that is all over... I wish Dreamhost had 24/7 support, not just weekdays during business hours. I guess that is one feature of Hostway that I miss.

EDIT: Dreamhost later decided to give me a free month of service. That was very nice of them and makes me feel a lot better.
 
January 15, 2007:

I'm experiencing downtime across all my Dreamhost services. They've been pretty good the past few months. Anyone else?
