I went to Target and camped out at launch for a Wii and got one. I have not yet gone into any store and seen a Wii on the shelf waiting to be bought.
The closest I've come to that is walking into a Best Buy last Xmas Eve around 11am to get a last minute gift card for our daughter. There was a manager standing at the checkout with one slip of paper in his hand, quietly asking people if they wanted a Wii. He said they'd gotten 6 in that morning. He asked me, I said no, and the very happy guy behind me took the last one. They had them hidden behind a register already double bagged so people couldn't see what he was being handed. Probably would've started a small riot.

I've seen Wiis on shelf about.... 2 times? Both in very weird small towns and I'm sure they weren't there long. Actually 3. One when a new Costco launched and it had hundreds of easy to grab Wiis. For about a week. I got mine on launch. Waited 10 minutes in line to grab a preorder and then 5 minutes at the store :D.
