Everyone in this forum knows that every time a new touchscreen phone comes out, it is immediately labeled the iphone killer. Just about weekly, a new "Android" phone is released and the iphone killer threads start. I know for one, I am tired of them, not because I don't care, but because it is the same with every new phone that comes out.

The iphone is a revolutionary phone that changed the way we look at a typical cell phone. It brought a whole new meaning to touch screen, and even though it does lack a few things that the Android phones have such as a higher Mega Pixel camera and the ability to customize freely out of the box (Insert Jailbreak here), it still is one of the most popular cell phones of all time. The cell phone that caught everyone's eye before the iPhone was the Motorola Razr, and we all know how popular that phone was. I for one had a total of 6 of them.

Every Android phone that has came out looks almost the same, they are running on the same platform as the next (Android 2.0 ect.), and yes there are many choices as to which one you would prefer, but they are all basically the same thing. I have played with the Motorola Droid, the Droid Eris and the other Motorola Android based phone, and I felt as thought the components are the same internally it is only the outer shell that makes a difference.

The iPhone is the only of its kind, yes it has different storage sizes and 2 colors to choose from, but when someone sees it, they know automatically that it is in fact an iPhone. If you held out a random Android based phone, I could not tell you the name of it or who the manufacturer is, but I can tell you that it has the same platform as the 50 other Android phones.

And, although the iphone is not for the exclusive any more, and many many people own them, it is still the iphone. The phone that changed the way we text, listen to music, play games and do daily activities (there's an app for that!). I for one know that when I look at the HTC HD 2 I do not think, oh that is the so called iPhone killer, because if I did, I would say that about every Android based phone- but I can't look at any other phone and say, that is the iPhone, because there is only one, and contrary to Japanese Electronic Companies beliefs and products, Apple is the ONLY producer of this phone.

In conclusion, I vote that we all call the new iphone (if in fact it shows its face in June) the iPhone killer, because honestly I think that it will be the only phone that surpasses the current iphone enough to have a label such as that.

    Just a thought, enjoy. :)

All the iPhones that came out looks almost exactly the same. So whats your point? All Apple do every year is come out with minimal upgrades and all you fans think its the greatest upgrades ever.

I'll have to agree with this:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9506498&postcount=3

    Minimal hardware upgrade maybe.
But the software update from 2.0 to 3.0 has brought tons of missing features and functionality.

I am not a Apple Fan Girl. Well sort of, but then again everyone who buys iPhone after iPhone is apparently a fanboy/girl of some sort because if not then they wouldnt continue to buy the same phone over and over.

I think that the upgrades are good for the most part, and honestly I am happier with the iPhone than any other phone I have owned including the Motorola Droid. I was only saying that the reason that label has not stuck is because and iPhone is an iPhone, it is the only one. There are no iPhone killers.

I moved from an iPhone to Nexus One and haven't looked back. Android and the N1 are so much better in every way.

Maybe on the outside the iPhone looks the same but on the inside it had lots of improvements, both hardware wise from the 3G to the 3GS (3.0MP camera with auto focus and tap to focus, ability to take macro pics, more control over exposure, video recording, etc; compass; better processor; double the RAM; double the capacity; 7,2Mbps HSDPA; better battery; improved speakers, oleophobic screen, Nike + iPod...) and software wise (copy and paste, landscape keyboard, universal search, tethering, better YouTube app, Find My iPhone, MMS, genius mixes, voice memos...) plus all the new APIs that made so many great apps possible. Just because the upgrades weren't anything you were interested in doesn't mean they weren't significant.

Not to mention the iPhone is sexy, I have not seen a phone since the 3g that compares to the sexiness. But that is a personal opinion, that I am followed by thousands on. lol

Apple is the iPhone killer. A new iPhone, not so much.

I guess saying that if the iPhone was the iPhone killer this would mean suicide? Yes, Apple would make more sense!

    Oh here we go again....

Phone companies rarely if ever market their own products as iPhone killers. In fact the closest example I can think of in recent memory was an investor (not an employee but an investor) in Palm who stated people would flock to the Pre. Your rant is pointless because the term "iPhone killer" comes from clueless tech stories from the likes of CNN. Nobody is even trying to kill the iPhone. They're just looking to sell X number of phones netting $Y in profit.

Look at it this way. How many phones has the iPhone killed? RIM still outsells iPhone in the US, Android is the fastest growing smartphone, and WM is doing impressive considering their outdated system and upcoming change. Palm isn't doing so hot but actually I blame Android on that problem more than the iPhone, plus some poor marketing and business decisions at Palm.

Apparently you do not understand where I am coming from. I said nothing about CNN, or other companies pasting the "iPhone Killer" label on their phones, I am specifically referring to the people who post on all forum websites asking if "XYZ phone is the iphone killer". Read again and you will see in the first paragraph I said I was tired of threads of that kind.

My rant may be pointless to you, but to me it is not, and to other people, they may think it is a good point as well. Not to mention that I believe that this post is MUCH more interesting than the threads titled, "I got an iPhone", "iPhone is the best", "Is this the new iPhone killer?", "What is going to be in 4.0?", "I am thinking about getting an iPhone" When all of which have been posted hundreds of times before. I searched (Aggie... ) and found no thread like this, some similar but nothing exact, so I felt the need to post.

Why harp on someone posting their opinion? You just posted yours, should I nit pick what you said now? Thanks.

    There is no iPhone killer.

Apple will always have a dedicated fan base no matter what road they take.

Well iPhone itself big phone that's why people compare other phones with iPhone so iPhone prove itself that it's best among all. No phone can match iPhone and that's why we only find people saying "iPhone Killer" words but we never heard "Android Killer" :p:p:p:p:p:p

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-gb; Nexus One Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

The world is full of annoyances...

People that scream "iphone killer" on the announcement of new hardware sit on both sides of the fence. I've seen people say "omg look at this new phone.... it blows the iPhone out of the water" and the sarcastic undertones of "lulz, I suppose this is the next iPhone killer" (insert rolleyes smiley here).

Annoying? Yes! Would I ever let either party influence my purchasing decisions? No.

I buy things that suit me and enjoy my purchase but I do enjoy the discussions that go along with new hardware and software announcements.

Let the "iPhone killer" people carry with their incessant ratings whilst the rest of us sit back and enjoy our purchases and have intelligent dialogue about the pros and cons each of platform out there. :)

Eventually, people realize the simplicity of how the iPhone handles itself is what makes it so good.

I agree completely with the OP, I cannot envision myself buying any other brand of phone as long as Apple continues to release a new handset annually. The iPhone has simplified my life and in my opinion there is no other company that can do a better job. Naive, maybe, but I haven't paid attention to a single cellphone release since I switched over to Apple. The iPhone is no longer exclusive, but I feel that is a good thing in order to keep the innovations coming.

Same here. I previously owned a iPhone 3G and 3GS, had both jailbroken and modded in every way possible. The Nexus One is indeed better then the iPhone in nearly every aspect. I used to always think the same thing "Nothing is better then the iPhone until the new one comes out", boy I was wrong. Thank you Google, thank you.

Only if others were open minded enough to give the N1 a try, it without a doubt is better than the iPhone in many ways. I still have my jailbroken iPod touch though ;)

How well does it sync with iPhoto smart albums? Will my contact photos in Apple Address Book sync over the air along with the contacts? Is there a way to sync my Safari bookmarks over the air?
