iPhone 2G is easily my favorite design, but it's screen is inferior to the 4/4S.

The only reason the older phones are brighter is due to light leak. The newer phone have higher resolution, better contrast and more accurate color reproduction.

My original iPhone, and by looking at the photos presented, did not have a light leak.

Personally, I prefer the cool blue of the original screen.

Here is a comparison between the first generation iPhone and the iPhone 4S. They are both set at the same brightness level, yet the original iPhone has a brighter and much more vibrant screen. What does the iPhone's screen quality(not resolution) seem to be getting worse?

Sorry bro, the pictures would be exact if they were screen caps. From what I can tell, one has tabs open, one doesn't. The carrier and battery level are also different.

I'll take my IPS retina all day over the original screen...no contest.

Why would OP lie about whether or not this is a screen capture? lol...

how is this even indicative of a weak screen on the iphone 4s? if anything its just a calibration issue regarding brightness level, which im sure the iphone 2g you have there is working off an old iOS.

and even so, that means the 2g is working flawed, and consuming more battery life within normal settings for brightness

You would have to be an idiot to choose the original iPhone's screen over the retina display just because it looks brighter at some arbitrary brightness level.

I just upgraded to a 4s and gave my old 4 to my wife (who had a 3GS). The first thing she said was "the screen is amazing".

You say they are at the "same" brightness level. That really doesn't mean anything as Apple has probably tweaked the brightness slider over the years. Plus, being two different screens they have two different display controllers meaning 50% brightness is not going to be the same. My bet is the new iPhone can go much lower in brightness meaning that the slider has a larger range, meaning the same setting will be lower on the 4S until you get further to the right.

A better comparison would be both at min brightness and both at max brightness. (With the "auto brightness" turned off on both.)
