So I'm on a quest for the perfect case for my shiny new iPad 10.5. I would like:
1 - good all round protection against dropping, esp when "closed"
2 - elegant looking. maybe a relatively discreet leather folder look, maybe with a zip or magnetic/Velcro flap closure fastening
3 - ability to hang around neck (this would be good for events like walk around tastings)
4 - can hold the pencil - preferably inside the case
5 - a keyboard, ideally like the Apple Smart cover one.
5B - If it does have a keyboard, then the ability to fold it so one could use as a kind of laptop sitting on the train
6 - the flap must be able to fold right under the pad without falling off
7 - should be easy to hold while standing and writing

I don't think any can do all this, but feel it should be possible, even if not available now

The Logitech slim combo could do 1, 4, 5 and 7
Apple Smart Cover with keyboard can do 2, 5, 5B, 6 (not sure about 7)

Any suggestions of things to look at?

I am a big fan of both the Apple Smart Keyboard and the Apple silicon cases, and it appears that Apple isn't making the cases for the back side anymore. That's a huge bummer. They've discontinued them for the 12.9" and aren't making them all all for the 10.5". I'm assuming the 9.7" versions are only available while supplies last.

I bought a cheap Moko brand case on Amazon to protect the back--that's the only thing I could find that protected ONLY the back and allowed the Smart Cover to fit on the front, and even then, I had to do some surgery on it with my pocket knife to get the camera cutout and power button cutout to fit correctly.

This is a wait and see game--there's almost nothing out there either in the stores or online.

I had a Logitech case on my iPad mini that was outstanding (ultra slim I think it was called). I can not recommend the Logitech case for the 10.5. I am very disappointed. It is thick, not slim, slippery, comes apart (by design) if you try to flip the keyboard back, and feels cheap. The ultra was nearly perfect - I like nothing about the fat/slim case from Logitech. I'll be getting something different as soon as there are more options.

Still mad as hell that Apple does not offer their back cover for the 10.5. I have found nothing better. All the cases I find have hard back which makes them even more slippery and even hard to pick up from a table with one hand.

I know they were expensive but I would pay whatever for the proper rear case from Apple.

I feel exactly the same way. The silicone cover is pricey but it fits perfectly and feels nice in the hand. I am very disappointed that there isn't a back cover.

This was the case I had for my 9.7 Pro last year, and it was amazing:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E15GIXC/

*Exactly* like the older Apple Smart Leather Case that they stopped making after the Air 2. In fact, it seemed a tad sturdier as well. I'm sure the quality of the leather wasn't as good, but this really kept my Pro 9.7 in absolutely pristine, like-new condition for a year, and after a year the case still looked like-new as well.

I was hoping to find that this company was releasing a 10.5 case, but so far they have not :/

If you see they office it again, let us know, I would order one.

I also wish there were more alternatives for cases that integrate storage for the pencil. The cost of the leather Apple sleeve is crazy and it doesn't offer as quick of an access as a flip-open style case. I guess it is a waiting game for now.
